J. Crew Lady Day sizing?

I am thinking about getting the J. Crew lady day coat, and I wanted to see if anyone has any advice about sizing. I wear a size 8 in both the schoolboy and the hacking jacket from J. Crew, although the hacking jacket definitely fits on the snugger side. I've seen a couple of comments that this coat runs on the small side, but none of those specifically spoke to this year's coat, and we all know sizing can change from year to year! My plan is to size up to a 10, so that there will be room for warmer layers under the coat.

Can anyone who owns or has tried on this coat (especially this year) chime in on how you've found the sizing and whether ordering up one size seems like the best place to start? Thanks!

I cannot address the specific lady day coat, but I do have a different J. Crew coat and I had to size up to avoid too-tight armpits and accommodate layering underneath. It seems like sizing up is a good idea, IMHO.

I am a solid size 8 with JCrew as well as most other mainstream retailers. However, I bought that coat in a size 10 and am very glad I did. It tends to run snug through the shoulders and bust area. I have an athletic-hourglass shape. I hope that helps! It's a great quality coat and does make one feel like a lady!

I also own a lady day coat from several seasons back, and sized up to a 10 (from an 8) in order to accommodate layers and my bust.

I kind of regret sizing up, as the shoulders and waist are just a teeny *smidge* too large now. J Crew's "target" body type seems to be rectangles, so be aware of this if you're sizing up to fit the bust or armpits. OTOH, I'm the only person to notice the sizing issue -- so size 10 might have been the right call after all. Regardless of my uber-picky fit issues, I am still in love with the quality and styling of the jacket.

I've tried this coat and it is not made for anyone wide-shouldered or busty (and I'm not that busty). And I think you also have to have a small waist. So, narrow rectangle?

I also have a similar J Crew coat. I find it fit true to size, but with no room for a bulky sweater. So it depends if that's a priority.

Thanks everyone for confirming that I probably want to size up! I was able to try on one of their other longer fitted coats (Plaza Coat?) at the store today, and it fit true to size but with no room to layer anything, so I think I'll start with a 10, and see how it works.
