J. Crew Hacking Jacket sizing

Anybody familiar with J. Crew sizing on this coat? I wear a 0 in the School Boy Blazer, but read a few reviews that this had a slimmer, but longer fit in the torso. I don't know if I would stay with a 0 or go for a 2. Anyone who has this jacket or can offer feedback? Thanks.

Thanks, Sylvie. Yes, I did see this excellent link, and I'm still on the fence. One second, I want to go for a 0 and the next second a 2.

Complete bad advice because it makes the credit card look crazy for a bit, but I actually order 2 sizes at the same time, since I tend to be in between sizes, unless it is something super expensive, my heart cannot take it...

I almost exclusively do what Zap does. Nearly all of my online shopping is done with promotions or other sales, and I am constantly worried that the other size, if I need it, will either be sold out or no longer at the price I wanted when I realize I'd like to try it. Also, it lets me try on both sizes back to back.

Well, sometimes I keep one of the sizes, sometimes both go back. I'm still trying to sort out my NAS sizes for goodness sake. Tooooo muchhhhhh wooorkkkkk.

I see what you mean, Zap and Dashrashi. It's crazy making, but you have to know which way to go, and sometimes that means going with both, and deciding later, even if the credit card is taking the heat in the process.

This will probably muddy the waters, but I picked up the herringbone version of this jacket in a size 4. With a strong shoulder line, I can sometimes be a 6.

I am a bit broad and usually have to go up one size to fit the shoulders in JCrew jackets. Then I get the arms shortened.

Mamapicklejuice, with these great photos and Lisa, with your description, you're both really helping me here with your road-tested stories. I do have slight shoulders and yet I don't like anything really binding or tight. Measurements are important, but J. Crew can be inconsistent at times and that's why I really appreciate hearing from you.

I had to go up a size to fit my shoulders also - IMHO j. crew runs straight and narrow. I got the wool herringbone one last year.

Can you get the exact garment measurements for both sizes from J.Crew, and compare them to your School Boy Blazer? I like their online chat, although it seems to only pop up as a "suggestion" when I don't need it and never when I do.

KL's suggestion is perfect. I completely forgot that you can get measurements from them via email (and maybe by phone and online chat as well)

BTW, is the jacket back on their site or are you buying it from another source? I thought it was sold out.

ag, straight and narrow is a good visual description; that's what I am, but then you went up a size.

Chat wasn't working for me earlier, KL, and I have compared measurements, which are about 1/2" in difference. A phone call didn't help since it's not currently online, so the customer service rep. couldn't find it, understandably, and in answer to your question, Sylvie, yes, this is another source. Perhaps, an email tomorrow on this may give me more details on specific measurements between the two jackets. I do have one J. Crew source that may still be in my emails. I'll keep you posted.

I've tried both hacking and school boy and went with my usual JC size 4 on both - it ran the same through shoulders and torso on me. I have broad shoulders and a straight torso.

The jcrewaficionada blog is a fantastic source for anything J. Crew. There are always reviews on pieces in the comments section of posts so you can always run a search on that blog to see how the hacking fits on different people.
