Hi everybody!

J. Crew is finally rolling out their fall line, and you all know how I feel about J. Crew!

While a lot of it is sort of par for the course, there are a few things I have my eye on:

I want to play too! Though at best I 'll end up getting just 2-3 things from them, but it's certainly fun to make huge wish lists

Wow, that's such a cool list Ana! I can totally see you wearing every item you listed. You could even wear the greyhound tee inside your house, I'm sure it would make you smile!

I looked through, and while I love a lot of stuff, most of the colors are too warm for me (but perfect for you). Nevertheless, there are quite a few things I like and would like to get. Here's my list:

Tanya, definitely give the Featherweight long cardigan a try. It's not as long as what you are looking for in a boyfriend cardi, but it might work to give you the same look. I have seen these in person, and the kelly green color would be nice on you as well.

Also, the Tartine cardigan is so cute! I love the little built in ruffle. It adds interest, even if you're just layering over a tank.

My J. Crew has the cashmere V-neck sweater in heather plum, and it's a beautiful color. It's on the warmer side of purple, but I think it would look so great on you (alas, it wasn't the right shade for me).

Nice list, Ana. You HAVE to get the greyhound T. If it had Yorkies on it, I’d get one too. Use it as a layering piece under the Clea jacket. Add jeans, black flats and a matt tote. Funky. Viola!

Nice list Tanya. I love argyles. Love them under a crisp white shirt, or bowed blouse. But there has to be “a twist” somehow. Got to bring in the edge. Have you seen the ones at Benetton? Fabulous. I had a black and cream striped bowed blouse on yesterday and popped on Benetton’s black and cream argyle pullover ( because I needed to test one of their coats). It looked great. I was wearing straight leg jeans and cream shoes. It’s on my wish list if I can stand the wool content.

This actually really hurts to say it, but I was completely uninspired by this past summer's JCrew collection, and so far I am equally uninspired. I don't know. Something about the colors and the cuts just aren't touching me. And what's with pairing a green tweed skirt with a gray t-shirt? The skirt is beautiful but the t-shirt uglied it up so much for me that I almost hated the skirt.

I hate hating JCrew, but that's how I have felt for the last few months!

Having gotten that off my chest, I loved the Tartine cardigan, and I really like this coat:

Last year's fall collection at JCrew was so amazing. I was so in love and depressed that I couldn't afford any of it. This year, so far, I am less than impressed. Let's see what else they can do.

Christie, I hear you. I felt the same way about their early spring collection this year. The gray t-shirt with the tweed skirt is sort of ridiculous. I was imagining wearing it with a cream blouse (I have a ruffly ivory silk blouse that would be perfect), and black patent boots. I don't know--I'll have to try it on and if it looks good then I will play with it.

I miss the interesting details that were there in last year's collection--I completely fell in love with the ruffly collar on the Bella jacket and bought it in orange tweed and the blue velvet. This year they just look sort of like "classic" tweed blazers, but a little too classic for my taste--nothing funky about them. Even last year the Lexington jacket had white piping, and the solid version was available in some beautiful bright funky colors (I'm still kicking myself for not picking one of those up). That's why I thought a lot of this year's stuff was just par for the course. But if someone is looking for that sort of thing, then I guess it would be perfect.

Sarah, that's great! There are a lot of tracks in Mexico. Maybe you and I and Patience will need to plan a trip to the J. Crew at the Domain. I really want you guys to meet Lauren, who is my personal shopper. She's awesome, and very knowledgeable about the product and what's available, and what is selling out fast so you can jump on it, and what you can wait and see if it goes on sale.

I agree, there were some more interesting details last year. But let's wait, this is their August collection, which is sort of almost pre-fall, and most retailers in my experience go for the big September collections.

Angie, I love argyle, and I might have to stop by Benetton to check out what you are describing. Two or so weeks ago when I was there for the last time there was no fall stuff yet. And do you think that the Kelsey tank dress might work better for me over skinnies than those atrocities I posted last night? It is sort of A-line, but if course I'll have to try it on.

Also they are showing a grey wool jacket in their intro but I don't see it yet to buy. And now I'm not seeing the intro either! I saw it early this morning, and if I remember correctly it had kind of a menswear-inspired thing going on. I want a menswear-inspired jacket this season.

I'll have to wait until I can get to the store for other items to be added to my list. Often I have to try on and see in person before I know what I like!

Ana, Does the Domain location have a lot of summer items left? As I said in my clamdigger thread, I'm probably going to purchase mostly summer items for now since I don't really have much of that, and we have three months left to endure. By that point I'll be even smaller, and will feel better about investing in fall clothing. I can probably benefit from a few of the fall things though, as they look transitional - plus, I do work in a cold office.
So yes, let's meet. I saw in my JCrew package that they offer free personal shopping, I've never had a personal shopper before! I'd love that.

Shiny, are you going to try the Sea Green tweed jacket? I think that would look so pretty on you and match your eyes. My second vote is for the evergreen color.

Hmm...I haven't seen the Lady coats in person because they're usually only available online and they are too heavy for Austin's winters. Do you live near a J. Crew? If you order one on the red phone, shipping is free, and you can return it to the actual store, so you don't have to worry about boxing it up and mailing it back.

No, they have a few neat accessories, and mostly t-shirts and some dresses, I think. That's it. Today is the last day for the 40% off all sale, then they're packing it up and shipping it back to the warehouse. But if you need some colorful basics for layering or want an accessory or something, I'd go down and take a look at what they have.

Can you go today or do you want to meet sometime later? I have an appointment at 1:00, but it should be over at 3:00.

I can't meet this afternoon unfortunately (my busyness for these two weeks has to do with hosting my BIL who recently separated). He leaves this coming Wednesday, so I'm available Thurs or Fri afternoon this next week.
Maybe I can find some things online since there is a larger summer selection there? Then we can decide if we want to meet at Nordstrom or the Domain next week (if you're still up to it?). I know you've been to Nordstrom already (twice? more? *wink*), so I'm game for anywhere. The NAS probably doesn't meet my shopping needs now anyway.

The online selection is better, and after today, stores will be packing up their sale merchandise and sending it to the warehouse, where it will probably be added to what's online already, so the selection might even get better. I'm not sure, but I think the online sale will stay up for a little while longer, and then probably be taken down, but then you might see some of those items pop up again next time they do an online sale.

I think as far as sweaters go, the J. Crew featherweight options will be best for Austin. That's mainly what I'm sticking to, so I can start wearing them sooner rather than later.

The NAS is pretty picked over at our Nordie's. If you're looking for shoes or accessories, I think there is still a petty decent selection and I would definitely plan on hitting it, just to see if there is anything you like. Plus, a lot of their spring and summer merchandise is on regular sale, too.

Shiny, (sorry this is a bit off topic, but I must answer this question)

I'm petite too (5'2") and I own a cream double-cloth lady coat. It fits like a dream and I love the quality of it too. It is hard for me to find coats that fit me well, so this was so fab to find. You should definitely check out the petite version of them in a fun color! I highly recommend the coats.

I love the J Crew look. But my problem is that I can't stand to wear wool or cashmere. Every time I try I am too uncomfortable. Not sure why -- just can't deal with it. J Crew has a lot of wool and cashmere, so that makes it tough. Angie, I noticed you made a comment about wool, sounds like you may have the same issue. How do you or others deal with it?

You're right Kyle. I have an aversion to wool unless it's on a lined jacket or coat. I cannot wear cashmere either. But for some absurd reason, I can sport a cashmere scarf and a wool blend at times. It takes FOREVER to find Winter knitwear that doesn’t itch. Fussy feet and fussy skin. My fashion challenge!

So I went to my J. Crew today to find out what items they are getting in. While I was there I tried on some of the items from my Fall wishlist. I took photos--any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!

I actually really like the rise on these matchsticks. Usually they don't work for me, but these colored ones are nice and stretchy, and feel more like my dark denim clamdiggers do.

I like the color of the cardigan on you and I'll be interested to see you with that style belted. That's one of the items I was considering but I don't want to always have to wear a belt with that look. Hmmm, something to consider for me.

The Marcella blouse is really pretty. Would you wear that belted as well?

Dani, I would definitely check out these matchsticks. They are really more like straight leg jeans, so I think they should accommodate larger thighs and calves (like ours). I haven't tried the dark denim version they are rolling out for Fall yet, but I will. This particular pair is called, "Overdyed" and it comes in three colors:

I'm wearing the Light Pewter color in the photos, but I'm going to order the Deep Persimmon ones. I've seen the Honey Glaze ones in person, and that color is very pretty as well--like a warm golden squash color.

Angie, I'm excited I get the thumbs up! The cardi is actually a much more vibrant tomato red in person, closer to how it's shown on the website. I love it! With a black patent belt and white skinny jeans...Yum. I know it's not a true BF cardi--I'm not sure I could sport one of those, because I'm so short and have short legs?

Muequita - thanks so much for responding! Do you have the version with or without thinsulate? What climate are you in, and how does it fare? Since you have the cream version, I have to ask also, how does it dry clean? They say on the site to size up if you are used to buying regular sizes - can you tell me if you did that?

Regarding wearing wool and cashmere:

Assuming you don't have a lanolin allergy, here's a tip: with wool and cashmere, you have to wear it a few times - without any layer underneath. Your body oils will get on the garment, and after a few wears it *won't* itch. Provided you don't wash it. Trust me, it really does work. You just have to be okay with only washing the garment once or twice a season, and getting used to the "breaking in" period after each wash. (helps if you don't wear perfume or smoke or sweat too much!)
