Ivory ruffle dress

So I hemmed and hawed over an ivory ruffle dress on Nordstrom but then it sold out. It's now on sale at Saks and Neiman's. But it is photographed two completely different ways; so now I'm not so sure.

I'm blonde but not as blonde as the Saks model, who I definitely think was a poor choice to model this dress. She blends in too much.

I'm not a big ruffle person - I think it kind of makes the models look like lampshades.

I think if you have any curves at all (and you do), that dress is best left in the store.

It's obviously speaking to you - if you have tried it on and it works for you then grab it. But it just looks like hard work to me. If it were a different colour I'd be more enthusiastic.

Yes...it looks very girlish, very frothy confection, etc. For me, it's the combination of the cream color, the ruffles, and the cut that just make it so frou-frou. If it were in charcoal gray, or had fewer ruffles, or not so many ruffles at the skirt part...But...if you love it and want to give it a go, then just do it! (then post pics You could absolutely toughen it up, and I could see it with your shearling jacket.

BTW when I road tested my shearling on Monday it was plenty warm. Had to leave it unzipped for most of the day.

If your skin is dark, this dress could be great. Otherwise I think you would have to add a denim jacket or something in order to avoid looking washed out.

I love this dress! I just saw it in a Bloomie's store, only I think it was black with navy ruffles or something of the sort?

It is a statement dress Anna and you are obviously very attracted to it. I would at least try it on, or maybe buy it and style it a couple of ways and post here for opinions. That way if you decide to not to keep you would at least not have any regrets. Good to hear about the shearling jacket, it is a lovely piece.

The dress must be very dark navy, and navy ruffles. It is very pretty. I agree with Tanya: It's a statement dress. But all MJ dresses are statement dresses, if you ask me. I happen to love his style. Here's another option, in black:

I really like this dress and I'm not a frilly person generally. Love the possibilities for toughening it up though. If you keep coming back to it, I would say you need to at least try it.

I'm sorry if this is mean but that blonde model looks horrible. Her hair color looks so unflattering against her skintone. Don't even notice the dress on her because of her awful hair.

Anna, I had a MbMJ tunic that had a ruffles like this at the edge. I thought it wouldn't be flattering because they hit RIGHT on my hips, but something about them being SO ruffly and over the top actually make them work in reverse. I think they key is how body-con the dress is. If it's a bit loose I could see it being delightfully girly, which you could, as Maya pointed out, add some fierce accessories to and make a fabulous combination.
