Its this a winner for the cocktail dress?

It is pure silk, snake print, super comfy, passes the sit down test, and not terribly expensive. I even love the shoes I tried it with.

But too wild print? I have already gone down one size so I don't dare another.

It is a lovely dress and the soft grey is really gorgeous on you. Given it's silk it is a little unforgiving and I am not sure that this is the most figure flattering dress I have seen on you. I hope you don't mind me being honest, but I know you want to look fab for this occasion. Is it lined? You look like you have a similar figure to mine and I find I need some stretch in most of my dresses or they need to be quite tailored fabrics that define my shape. I am just not sure. I am also aware that being a silk it may not be photographing as good as it looks in real life. In the photo it appears to have satin like sheen.

I see what you mean Deborah,.tailoring is not much of an option here..and the lady said I only had 8 days to return if I changed my mind. Not that I needed 8 days but she sounded so annoyed that I wanted to take it home and have a friend look it over. So I left it.

i'm on the fence for the same reasons as deborah. this looks like a gorgeous dress, but might be a bit unforgiving, though maybe better IRL.

Gosh Jayne, I would find it hard to shop in a store where the SA has such an 'attitude'. You can always go back and try it again if you want to. I had another look at the pictures and I realised tailoring probably wasnt going to work and I did change my comment, sorry should have noted it was edited for you.

I know you said that you are not really attracted to LBD's, but would that be an option?

Jayne how dressy could your animial print skirt be? Is it a pencil shape?
How about a black peplum top, slim belt over the animal print skirt with heels.
Would create a gorgeous hour glass shape and could look really elegant.
Peplums are everywhere here at the moment and I wonder if it's the same where you are. Could be an easy piece to find. Im going to post a picture of what I mean on another thread as I can't add a picture to your real time thread.

Hmm. I can see what attracted you to this dress, but I don't think it's fab enough for you. There's something about the sleeves, high neckline, and lack of shape/structure that's not showing your lovely figure to its best advantage.

I agree with the consensus here. The fabric is fantastic but the cut is not - I am not sure this is an improvement on the dress you already have.

I think shift dresses, especially with long sleeves, are really really hard to make work.

Silk is lovely and pattern is fun but somehow the fit is off. It looks shapeless in not fashion forward way to me. Like waist surrendering but not quite. Maybe if it was a couple of inches above the knee it would look better,... I am also not sure that color is flattering on you.

Not good enough for you. Very interesting fabric ( and I love it with the shoes), but the fit is off. Sleeves appear too loose, fabric in the body of the dress doesn't drape in a flattering way. And...you don't want to give this snotty SA your business anyway.

Jayne, I'm just chiming in to say I think you can find something better. I suspect it may not be photographing as well as it looked in real life, but even so. The sleeves are too loose and long, the shape doesn't flatter your shape, and I'm not sure it is your best colour. Onward!!

Jayne. I like it! I think the sleeves a little long and loose at the ends, but that's an easy fix. You could easily make them 3/4 length, if you prefer. I like the covered up aspects --- it's elegant and classy, and I love the length -- your legs look terrific. I think this would be a good day/night choice with a jacket like Una's theory jacket or, for more, edge a little leather.

The skimming soft, sheath aspect of the dress is pleasing to my eye and flattering.

I did leave it and then find the same one at another store...took lots more photos and just fell out of any last love....

so I am keeping my black and grey prom dress as option 1 while I see what I can find next weekend in Oslo (the BIG city).

Beth Ann...you are spot on, when I went by another store they had this dress in the window styled with a brown leather jacket...it looked great like that. But then, it cannot be a cocktail dress I guess.

Glad it stayed in the store. Definitely you can do WAY better (fit, shorter sleeves, brighter colour/different pattern, etc).
