It's official: I am stylistically challenged

I give up. I can do an outfit, that is easy. I know what looks good on me and I have a style I like. But I cannot put it all together.

Would anyone like to join me as I drown my sorrows in a glass of wine? (Burgundy, which is my favorite color.)

I suspect it may not be as bad as you think? Though I"m always up for a glass of wine. I'll bring cheese.

Awe, no. Yes you can. Be a copy cat see a picture or image you like and try to recreate it. Don't be afraid to take pictures and post them here even selfies. Everyone here is so very helpful. I can't drink for the next couple of years because of my little nugget but I'll share my sparkling grape juice with you

Will someone please bring chocolate to my pity party? To go with the wine and cheese.

It's just that in my heart and soul I dress like Dita von Teese (her street style, obviously!) I have never met a sheath dress I didn't love. My workwear and formal wear wardrobes are spot on. Fitted suits in bright colors.

My problem is my day to day casual wardrobe. And the fact that I just love the comfort of sneakers. My feet hate most heels. Although my winter daily boots have a wedge heel that the website claims is 2.5 or 3 inches but these happen to be the most comfortable shoes I own. (They are by Aquatalia.)

Also, I prefer pants to skirts for casual wear. I had the most perfect pair of pants...100% wool that could was washed in the machine. They were high-waisted, pleated, and had deep cuffs. I got it at JJill but of course they don't carry them anymore. What happened to the pants, you ask? Well, it seems that a moth liked them as much as I did.

I just can't seem to put together my casual daily outfits.

Also, we're here to help with positive reinforcement, constructive criticism, general tips & tricks, and plain old moral support. We women have to stick together, and I see a lot of that around here, which is a wonderful thing. I was just thinking earlier about how it's been women that have saved my ass every time I needed saving. So let us know what we can do to help

I've got the chocolate!!!!! And lots of cookies left-over from Thanksgiving. Kinda sounds like you need to share some of your favorite work-wear features with your casual wardrobe. The colors could certainly be shared, and some of the same silhouettes might work if constructed in softer/more forgiving fabrics--like a sheath tunic with pants or leggings.

Perhaps you could consider smaller elements of Dita's style that might work with more casual looks: lacing (instead of corsetry), black lace, strappy looks, low cut tops and push up bras if you feel daring. And of course the red lipstick. However, I don't see sneakers as a good fit --you might look too Madonna in the 80s.

You might also consider that her style is a nod to old-fashioned pin up girls, and look through some of those images

em, if I'm understanding correctly, it's the casual weekend wear that isn't making you feel fab, but the weekly dressy work wear is sorted. Is that right?

Hi Angie! Weekly dressy work wear is sorted. It's the casual wear that is a hang-up.

One thing I have done is taken to wearing the top halves of my suits--lots of St. John knits and other fitted cardigans--everyday. They look rather cool over a T-shirt. (Again, see...they are KNITS. I love knits. I like to be able to move.) I just have no pants or shoes that allow similar movement that also look chic and pulled-together. It's a good thing my underwear is nice.

So you mentioned Dita Von Teese in your comments and her style to me has a retro vibe. I actually love high waist wide leg pants she also wars very fitted cigarette pants. These are the looks I like the most.

I've seen some rockabilly sites in the past that sell these types of pants and jeans.

On days off, I live in knits and jeans with lots of stretch. My favorite jeans are by Mother. I find the high-waisted Looker cut super comfy and flattering. To me, a pair of jeans that makes me feel fabulous, plus some cool shoes go such a long way to feeling chic yet comfortable on days off. Wearing your nice knit jackets and cardis is a smart way to go. You can keep an eye out for similar pieces to add to your casual wardrobe, too: knit moto jackets or cashmere pullovers, for example.
