Why do Europeans get all the good shoes?

I was searching on ebay for Fidji shoes, and I got the idea to search ebay.es (Ebay Spain--there is no ebay Portugal), and one way or another I was led to a German seller who has tons of amazing Euro shoes for sale. A few shoes by the brand Tamaris caught my eye with its funky, low heel, foot-shaped styles, so I Googled them and OMG I am so bummed that I can't get them here

And how fierce are these? Pretty darn fierce. Who needs a 4" heel to be fierce!

And don't even get me started on all the adorable Clarks shoes they had for sale that will never end up in the largely frumpy US collection.

I considered contacting them and asking if there was any way in the world they would ship to the US, but there is no way for me to know if their shoes would work for me or not, so I guess I'm left wondering until I get to Germany...

OMG. I love those yellow shoes.
I couldn't agree more! I wish I could do something about it, and I don't even have any international trips in foreseeable future. *sniff*

Those boots are cool. We probably get similar ones here next year. What I buy there becomes common here a year later, LOL!

Am I the only one seeing a big trend change in the shoe fashion or do others think the same? The heels are funkier, etc.

I dunno. When I lived in Europe, I'd drool over all the great shoes available in the US. Grass = always greener...

Although part of Europe a lot of European shoes are not available in the UK either. C'est la vie.

oh Maya I feel your pain! I feel like we in Aus miss out on a lot of things too... although I live in such a regional area that it could just be my town LOL

I think that every second shop in Lisbon was a shoe shop - Portugal is shoe fetish central! Spain has lovely shoe shops too as does France (France is also fantastic for glasses frames).

As Julie said, these aren't always available in the UK either. Also, shoes in Europe don't seem to be offered in wide styles as they are in the USA, so if you have wide flat feet Europe may not be a good destination for you. Same if you take a half size.

Ahh I feel your frustration so badly. This sounds like a good business venture -- importing funky Euro shoes. I don't have the start-up costs, but someone should do it.

OK, seems as if I have to start a shipping business for you guys...
Maya, I live in Germany, and I can tell you that Tamaris shoes are great! I own quite a few pairs because they have very fashion forward styles for reasonable prices. Usually, they are comfortable, too.
So, there are two possibilities: You coming around and visiting me as I suggested yesterday for your YLF world tour, or I´ll have to send them to you....

On the other hand, there are so many fab shoes and clothes in the US that aren´t avalilable for me, so your grass seems greener to me....

Phoebe, it would be awesome to have an exchange program, so we could ship you US goods and you could send us Euro stuff!

I don't lust after American shoes for the most part. Europeans walk a lot more and their shoes reflect that. Not that 4" heels do not exist in Europe (quite the opposite), but there is more of a balance and certainly much better craft and materials.

Maya, this might be a crazy idea, but the Brighton Beach area in NY is basically a mini Russia. The stores are filled with European goods and if I remember correctly, they have quite a few clothing and shoe boutiques. I don't remember exactly the type of merchandise they sell, but Russians are quite stylish and it might be a fun day trip to look around and you might find some fun and comfy Euro shoes there! (And it's all right off the subway, easy commute!)

Marianna, that's not a bad idea. Last time I was there was to visit the aquarium, so I'm long overdue.
