I just have to share a style related funny conversation I had with DH the other day. I was trying on one of my many slightly daring outfit combinations, and asked for his opinion.
He stared blankly at me and answered: "I do not understand this outfit".
"It's like modern art! You don't have to understand it, just tell me if you like it or not!"
We both had to laugh after that.

Maybe you also have resident style consultants? Are they of any help?

My daughter is the one that gives a fun feedback plus couple of her friends. My ex was all for traditional sexy things - tight jeans, black lace, short flirty skirts.. Currently YLF is the biggest help - looking at other ladies' outfits, reading blog, being part of discussion. Girls at my work go more in direction "it's cute" to almost anything ( occupational hazard ).

I had that discussion w DH- re: fashion week vs daily wear. I told him fashion week is intended to be art, supposed to make you think, but not necessarily intended for visual harmony.

Oh yeah, slim cat, YLF is of tremendous help! I also follow fashion bloggers and IG personalities, but nothing beats seeing the behind the scenes, frank and honest reviews and feedback, often unfuzzy and down to earth real styling. How normal people wear their everyday clothes to achieve great style.
I can't rely to much on my coworkers either. I have noticed it is a bad sign when they say nothing at all, ha ha!

I love the conversation! My younger DS is my in-house style consultant. Which is pretty funny, given that his own choices for clothing are tees paired with shorts or track pants. But, he has a great eye for color and traditionally flattering shapes. Usually when I'm on the fence about something he can quickly verbalize what the problem is.

Yes Kathie. Some just seem to naturally have an eye for those things. Others need years and years of practice (including my self). How lucky for you to have this expertise on hand!

My husband,bless him,isn’t the most reliable of style gurus but my teenage daughter is very good but the she has had a great teacher!(tee,hee)

I wouldn't even bother to ask my husband. There WAS one time when I was wearing a graphic printed pant. We were heading out to an event and he said, "you're changing before we go?". I said no and was met with a blank stare.

My husband has evolved a lot in his taste in clothes. Once, I asked him what he thought about my outfit which contained four different patterns, and he liked it. That never would have happened a decade or two ago.

Hmm, DH has very consistent taste and no matter how long between wears he will reliably comment on the same items. DD2 is paying the most attention, DD1 and DS don't usually notice. Agree with the art analogy.

I love your response! No in-house style consultant in our house. We have 4 fashionably indifferent felines (who have no respect for delicate fibers either) and my DH only notices clothes in their absence!

Your response is brilliant and I'm totally stealing it. I've had many outfits that people didn't understand, and it doesn't always work to tell people that I'm just prepared for the zombie apocalypse; sometimes, I'm just weird LOL
