Its Cold and Snowy and I have a party... UPdated with dress pic

Hello fabbers,

I am back from my week in ottawa. I didn't get any shopping time in and barely thought about my clothing for the semi-formal dinner/dance tomorrow. I did buy a black sleeveless heavy jersey dress before I left though and I have a Tadashi Shoji with a taffeta skirt and knit surplice top and 3/4 sleeves if it fits.

I have a few questions:

I may not have time to shop for shoes and all i have that might work is a pair of black sling back patent heels or a pair of nude patent heels with peep toe but closed heel.

Are either of these options okay with a black dress and tights?

Given that it is going to be at least -10 and there is a lot of snow on the ground, I can't do bare legs. Should I go with a nude fishnet, nude tight, black sheer or black opaque? Or should I try to find a pair of tights with a bit of gold or silver sparkle?

If I do have time to shop for shoes/tights what style of shoe would be acceptable? Should I search for a pump? I would like to wear black tights and the red booties but think that may be a bit too fashion forward for our little burg and for my partner's first social event with the new employer.

I think the black patent sling backs would be just fine. You could wear sheer black hose with a bit of pattern - small dots or fishnet, and that would give some texture and some shine to your new sleeveless dress. Finish with some sparkly earrings, or necklace, or cuff. I always think that the shoes are the least important part of an outfit for a dinner dance. Most of the time you are sitting at the table, so it's your outfit from the waist up that matters most. Just a thought though, what about adding a clutch purse in a vibrant colour?

Thanks MissVee. I was thinking about it during the night and am going to try to find a pair of tights that are a deep pewter grey with a bit of sparkle. If I see a deep grey pair of closed shoes with a low heel I may buy them too but won't have much time so probably one big store.

I was also thinking about accessories. I was considering doing lots of bling and possibly wearing my 80" strand if black pearls which read as dark grey and a mixed metal bracelet with some small black pearl accents.

Does that sound good or should I go minimalist with the accessories?

The pearls and bracelet sound like a good option. Don't get too tired out shopping today - it's going to be a zoo at the stores! Hope you have a wonderful evening!

I just went tights shopping yesterday....something I thought would be easy, but it was not. Out of all the big stores, Macy's and Kohls had the biggest selection of tights. Have fun today!

I vote pumps - and a fun colour or pattern. And nude tights with black fishnets over them. I always wear two pairs of hose when it's zero and below.

I have a Matt & Nat large medium to clutch in purple that I was thinking I would use. It has a bit of gold on the zipper edge detail.

A friend of mine is in the hospital after surgery and visiting her is a higher priority than shopping so I am going to drop by the hospital and then hit one or two stores. If I don't find grey or black pumps I like, I will wear the sling backs but will get tights.

Pics or it didn't happen--although I realize how hard it will be in the waning afternoon light. I hope you find what you're after with your sanity intact!

I have updated the original to include pics. I was planning to ask for advice on which dress but after looking at the pics and pretty sure that the first one posted is the one.

The second and third are both tadashi shoji dresses and although pretty, are just a bit too form fitting for my thicker mid-section.

I am heading out for shoes and tights and if I fail, will wear the black ones pictured.

Thanks ladies. Any suggestions on jewellery would be VERY welcome.

P.S. I just got out of the shower and haven't dried my hair or anything else that would make me look better. I was smiling for all the pics but there seemed to be a delay and I look unhappy.

That first dress is gorgeous on you Dianthus and I love the sound of the purple clutch - and the gold detailing with already add a bit of bling. I think your black pearls will work perfectly.

I agree that visiting your friend is more important - if you don't have time to shop don't sweat it. Wear what you've got and you will look gorgeous! Have a good time!

i vote for #4, pumps and black sheer hose. go with anything but a necklace so your bling does not fight for attention with the gorgeous bodice. or you can skip the bling and wear sheer hose with diamante detail at the back of the ankle or in a line along where a seam would be.

Oh, WOW, I LOVE #1 AND #4 - both are stunning on you Dianthus! You are going to look spectacular!! Agree with BJ 100%. (hmmm I seem to say that a lot!)

#1 is so flattering on you but I vote #4 because it's got that wow factor with the gorgeous lace bodice. I would wear it with dangly earrings and pretty bracelet, agree with bj on no necklace. Have fun and you will look stunning either way!

I'm voting #1 which is just SO flattering on you! With sparklies and pumps you will be a goddess.

#1 and a statement necklace with sparkle or your pearls...or both....or earrings instead.

#4 by all means! So wow! I would wear nude nylons, or try Angie's suggestion but darker leg coverage might affect the wowness of this. Add a pearl necklace if you have one. And please post pics afterwards!
