It's a lot..... ETA progress photos of basement…scroll down…

going on right now, so I am less present on the forum.
1. Just took a vacation to visit DD in Portland and playing catch up at work.
2. Attending a virtual conference over two weeks while also working full time, plus playing catch up at same time.....
3. Home construction project...almost done, but workmen back in my house for the finishing touches over next week.
4. Landscaping changes also taking place that need my attention...
5. Mom (age 82) wandered away (sort of) from her helper and was missing for 40 minutes, cell phone died, so helping her get new phone and adding tracking app as well! (Challenging due to nature of her disability to find phone that will work....)
6. That's all I have time to relay now....

Oh wow Staysfit, lots going on! Must have been so stressful when your Mom was disconnected. Best of luck finding a phone that will support her changing needs xx And enjoy the house improvements, and fab time with DD!

Sounds like a lot! Most of it fun but still makes for a hectic schedule. Sorry about your mom, that must have been scary.

Hubby and I also visited our daughter a few weeks ago, just a long weekend, but we got home and I felt like I still needed a weekend!

Glad to hear your mom is back, safe & sound. Hope you enjoy your “new” home.

For Christmas, we are getting my dad an inexpensive smart watch, so the tracking function will always be on his wrist.

That IS a lot! Re moms and cell phones: i was trying to reach my 97 YO mother, and tried calling her cell phone several times. No answer. Later, I was able to talk to her. I asked why she didn’t answer her cell phone. She said she didn’t know how…

Recommending the Apple Watch. Added benefit, it recognizes that you fell and if you don’t respond that you are okay it calls the wearerr’s emergency contact (and if I understand correctly) emergency services 911 in the US.

That sounds a busy time. There seems to be a lot of women on the forum with elderly mothers! The age many of us are I suppose. Because my parents were older when they had me they would have been 101 and 99 by now, whereas DH’s parents are 85 and 90, quite a difference. I hope she can manage to use the new phone.

MIL has an iPad and uses FaceTime to “call” the family. She finds it a lot easier than trying to use the phone. Mind you she’s in a long term care home, so there’s no danger of her wandering off.

You sure have a lot of balls in the air right now. I hope your home projects will wrap up soon so that you can catch your breath.

Staysfit, you have my sympathy! You are really pressed at the moment. I know you are resilient and organized but it really is a lot! Hoping that some of this stress settles in the next weeks for you! And may all beloved relatives stay safe.

Here’s a progress update with pictures of the basement. Our basement is now divided into three rooms, utility and storage closets, plus a new bathroom. One of the spaces is being used as a workout room and holds my Pilates equipment. The mats on the floor are from the past when DH did Tae Kwon Do (3rd degree black belt). The electrician is still doing some work so there is cardboard to protect the mats. The darker blue room is set up to be a media room. The space with the windows is a hobby area/ extra guest space or maybe a teen hangout. We put the treadmill in there because it looked so empty! There is a also a new full bathroom. The carpenter added some fun trim detail to the stairwell ceiling heading to the basement. Not pictured is a mud room remodel….we took one of the cubbies and converted it into a broom closet. The windows have deep shelf sills that he built… The dry wall has a starburst pattern. It was very hard to photograph! There are new deep shelves in one of the storage rooms (mostly holding the remains of the remodel right now….)

There’s a huge under the stairs storage closet with a light.

Oh wow, I’m late to this, but wishing you well. Lots going on! Hope your mom is doing ok.

The renovation looks wonderful. Great details! We are planning a big renovation for next summer:

- complete redo of our 30-year-old kitchen plus laundry/mud room, which will include moving plumbing and electric, plus new windows and skylights, to accommodate a whole new floor plan

- new flooring in those spaces plus in the hallway and foyer to replace the 30 year old white boring tile

- refinishing the hardwood floors in our living/dining room (all open concept with the kitchen, so may as well do all the messy stuff at once)

- resurfacing the red brick fireplace with something more modern and creating built-in storage on either side

- new railings and flooring for the upstairs loft, which overlooks the living room and kitchen. It’s currently a lot of wood and very “lodge” feeling and we want to make it more modern.

- oh, and we will probably have our main bathroom redone at the same time.

It’s going to be hectic to say the least. We expect to be living in our Airstream for 2-3 months while it’s being done.
