Itchy sweater: keep and suffer?

I was so excited when I ordered this H&M sweater that Marlien Rentmeester is wearing in the photo. It arrived today and is ADORABLE to the nth power, but for pete's sake, it is scratchy on the inside! So disappointing for something that looks so soft and cozy. It's mostly acrylic, with maybe 10% mohair.

I suppose I can keep it by wearing a long sleeved tee underneath, but that might add too much warmth for LA.

It was only $59, so I don't mind keeping it to wear as a top layer. Guess I will wear the heck out of it as long as it is cold here.

Hmm -- as soon as I saw "keep and suffer?" my mind said, "No!" It just seems like life is too short, and our choices too many, to suffer for cuteness.

Especially in LA, for goodness sake, where you aren't freezing to death and willing to do anything -- anything! -- to stay warm.

Why do you need to suffer? The mohair is doing its thing, it can be quite itchy. It's a lovely sweater but it may also be too warm for LA. Plus if it's mostly acrylic it will not " breathe" and therefore it will be super warm and itchy on top... Maybe return and get something else. I think you mentioned before that you are into knitting. Take good pictures of the sweater, take its measurements and maybe get yourself a kinder fiber to knit it?

Hmm, I'm of a mind to keep it for cold days and layer under it. I'm not sure I ever wear sweaters without at least a cami underneath, even here in FL.
But if it drives you crazy, and you don't layer under, by all means send it back. Being uncomfortable is rarely worth it past 10 or 15 minutes unless you're getting an Oscar or a wedding picture taken!

Send it back. It's the wrong fabrication for LA. It will make you miserable. Even with layers that mohair may poke through.

Itchy sweaters tend to feel less itchy when it's super cold. And more itchy when it's hot and humid.

Spoken by one who has suffered a full year with a GAP oversized sweater...that is heading to the consignment ASAP.

I saw a similar one on the Zara sale site, with angora, maybe it is less scratchy?

I agree with nancylee - send it back. When I'm in a situation like this, i.e. trying to convince myself that somehow I'll make it work and wear it and wonder what I ever did without it - it never happens and the item ends up in the donations bag.

I would send it back too. I think you have to pay return shipping for H&M, but the sweater cost enough that it's worth it. No need to suffer.

Now, if we were talking about those shoes that that blogger had on...that would be a different matter entirely! :^)

Cute sweater, but there are lots of other cute sweaters out there to buy. You won't enjoy this one if it makes you itch!

What? No! Nothing's worse than an itchy sweater. And those mohair fibres will poke right through your underlayer anyway, probably.

I wouldn't buy an itchy sweater if it cost 50 cents!

Anything that makes me think the word 'suffer' is out. Maybe 'slightly annoyed', but never 'suffer'!

I love floofy looking sweaters, but occasionally when I wear them in too hot weather with a lining shirt, even though I don't feel uncomfortable, I get kind of a prickly heat rash on my chest, which never happens on any other occasion and means I can't wear anything with a lower neckline for the rest of the week. So I'd check it out not only for itch, but for leaving visual reminders of itch

For me, itchiness is a dealbreaker. No matter how cute something is, if it isn't comfy, I don't wear it. So I personally would send it back, but if your tolerance is higher go for it.

Yes, it's gorgeous, but if it's itchy - deal breaker! I had a similar sweater several years ago (not blue stripes, pink) and it was so itchy, even with a layer underneath, that I hardly ever wore it.
Send it back, put it on your wish list, and you WILL find a similar, non-itchy version. It's out there somewhere!

Every time I let the cuteness factor outweigh the itchy factor in a sweater I live to regret it! The first few times I wear it , I justify telling myself it's not "that" itchy, it's so cute it's worth it ...etc etc. As the novelty of the new sweater wears off I find myself reaching for it less and less until eventually I just can't bring myself to wear it knowing that there will always be some level of discomfort with it. My new mantra (that I have had to repeat to myself many times when tempted) is: I will not buy you itchy sweater, I will not buy you itchy sweater! Lol

Just reading the word "itch" makes me suffer.

Also, "only $59" just a few times over can add up to funds sufficient for a sweater or other garment you'll love for a long time.

also I find even with a bottom layer, it can still find a way to reach through and drive you nuts
