It took 13 years...my 3 words...

Wow that was hard for me. But here they are.

EFFECTIVE : I am pragmatic. I like usefulness and appropriateness. Clothes that are easy to take care of, wear well and really fit my lifestyle. To be effective in delivering what I need from them.

INTERESTING : At the same time, I would like them to have some thing of interest. Or for the outfit to have something of interest. Because I want to be interesting. Not necessarily in your face 'hey, I'm interesting', but an interesting texture, bracelet/jewelry, or a conversation about something interesting ( a reason I LOVE YLF. Interesting women !!! ) a little unexpected.

AWARE: I love classic and practical . I love things for a loooooong time. But I want someone to look at what I'm wearing and think that I'm at least aware it's 2023 , of where I live and where I am at the moment. LOL

I like my three words.

I love these ... they have a lot of depth and are not overly prescriptive, allowing for lots of room for creativity and growth. Well done!

Indigo, I am an over thinker too. So for me, it's an amalgam of who I am , how I want to be in clothing, when I look at myself in clothing, how I want people to, at least, subconsciously ...but subtly see me In clothing and space.

Isabel, I know your style may have changed since that long ago day when we met in person but based on what I saw in action then, I'd say these words are an excellent way to encapsulate how you dress! I like what Helena said about their openness.

I like these words. I like the idea that you like to keep clothes for a long time but you are aware enough to add enough to show a bit of current.

I’m nodding at Interesting but laughing at Aware - because truth is delightful. It may, dare I say, be the difference between good interesting and bad interesting. Lol. I really like it!

An alternative to AWARE is CURRENT, if that tickles your fancy.

Those are very well thought-out. And I relate very much to Effective and Aware. I feel Current is slightly different as it might imply a need for newer clothes, whereas I think people can convey Awareness using older and vintage pieces. Well done!

Oh, I *love* Aware! It’s such a tricky thing, but definitely something I aim for. I don’t want to wear all the trends, but I do want to nod to them. And while I don’t strive to dress to fit in, I do feel best when I acknowledge the zeitgeist and my specific social/cultural context. And you can’t do ironic or arch without awareness!

Well Isabel I have been on YLF 6 years now and never managed the 3 words either, so maybe another 7 before I do!
I managed the word and colour once, and needed help on the style persona from the forum.

Nemosmom - thank you. with Aware I also wanted to reflect an awareness of the world around me and not just fashion. : )

KKards - years ago the forum tried to help me too. But I know my issue, I am an over thinker. And I finally figured out that I needed it to reflect a perspective that went beyond clothes a bit. Thus the "aware".

ANGIE ! thank you ! I thought long and hard about "current" ...but it didn't quite capture it for me. Some of the ladies really nailed it regarding "aware". Plus it really describes more of me trying to stay informed and be observant of what's going on . ( which plays into my overthinking LOL )

Jules - YES !!! you get it ! It's more of an APPLICATION or tweaking, You see what's going on, you aknowledge, you adapt .....in some way. It was important that the word also reflect me as a person.

Jenni - LOL 2 words in 6 years ! SOOOOOO much better than me. It's so interesting how so many of us really don't think about dressing. I think when we're young we just don't really think about it and never really transition to intentional dressing as we get older. Plus we were raised with SO many rules. At least I was ( don't wear white after a certain time of year...) It's a hard mental shift. In the end, I think it's really helpful . hang in there.

Yup - I’ve expressed before that my husband, working as a university librarian facing students mentoring younger staff, needs to look like he is aware of current times in some way, so that people will ask for and respect his guidance on how to find and use information in the digital age. He doesn’t dress the same as the students but he also can’t just do absent-minded, brilliant professor living in their own little esoteric world… there needs to be some acknowledgment.
