Kitchen project officially has begun.

Before pics: kitchen, 1-3. Laundry room, 4-5
First phase of the first stage! Pics 6-7 — upper cabinets removed, ceiling exposed, in preparation for electrician to do some work, and next week the new dormer will be constructed. Everything is going! Windows, cabinets, appliances, flooring — it’s ALL going away! Good bye, 1989 kitchen!

Pics 8-9 new island granite (the green material), with backsplash, countertop, cabinet, and floor tile selections. Whew!

Fingers crossed that all of your materials and appliances will arrive on time! Our new stove delivery was just delayed a month for the second time. We have a stove that works in place but -- ugh.

Oh, I am so excited for you! We had our kitchen remodeled about ten years ago, and I am STILL delighted with the results! It is so hard to live with it while it is happening, but more than worth it when it is done. Congratulations, and I look forward to seeing your in-progress pictures if you choose to share them!

Looks like you might be cooking Christmas dinner in a brand-new kitchen! It’s going to look wonderful. I hope the noise and activity aren’t disturbing the pups too much.

I had my cabinets redone early this year, and I just couldn’t be happier. It really seemed to elevate the look of the whole house somehow.

Xtabay, I wish! This will be going on in to January. I’ll be happy if we have a workable kitchen in February.Cabinets hopefully will be here in early December, but they’re coming from Europe, so I’m tempering expectations.

How exciting! We redid our kitchen about 20 years ago. We lived in the house during the remodel and it was a fascinating process, and so worth it in the end.

All the best with it Janet. We're also planning to redo our kitchen so I will be looking on with interest. It's hard to find trades here though, massive labour shortage. Was that a factor for you?

Thanks, all! Exciting times, but we expect this is going to take months, all told.

Anne, we are fortunate to have found a good general contractor we trust. He’s been doing some work on our basement (new sliding glass doors, removal of some old windows, building and installing some custom shelves and cabinets). I do know that some people in other areas of the States are having trouble getting contractors though — my sister lives in a rural area and has had a terrible time getting good timely help for roofing repairs and other matters. Plus everything has gotten more expensive… I hope you find good help!

We now have the dormer framing, but temporarily no windows! They’ll be in, in a few weeks. Roof gets finished in tomorrow.

How is the kitchen remodel going now or is it done? Our son and family have been with us a month while their kitchen gets remodeled. They still have no place to sit and lots of stuff back ordered. They still need door and drawer pulls, the floor refinished, furniture and windows installed. They will be with us through the floor sealing as they will not want a large dog with paws and dog hair and little kids on it as it will need to dry. Now they hope to be in by Thanksgiving.

What an ordeal, Joy!

Ours is going to take a long while. I’ll be happy if it’s done in February.

There are a lot of “adjacent” projects to this. With the construction of the new dormer on the kitchen, we opted to replace the 20yo roof and the two old skylights (Over the bathrooms) that were losing their seal. The roofers just finished up this morning.

As it is now, the kitchen is a shell, with a fridge and a cooktop, and no power in the outlets or working lights. Suffice to say that today I taught myself how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave, which lives on the dining room table for now. It’s chaos. Washing what few dishes we use in the laundry sink. Plywood over where the new windows will be, when they arrive! Lots of dust and debris, despite the plastic hung around the kitchen area.

This is just phase one! It will be a long haul but worth it in the end. Totallu new kitchen, totally new laundry room, all new appliances, finishes, cabinets, tile and lighting. New or newly refinished flooring in entire first floor, new front door and new windows in front of house. New light fixtures on exterior front of house (old ones are failing). Newly painted first floor and new surface on the fireplace. Whew!

Sounds like a lot. No wonder you hope it is finished in February. Wishing you all the best. Son and family have a sick dog now. They are seeking professional help for the dog, which is throwing up and over heated. Take care of your pets. They will not like the workers (strangers), around.

Joy, one of our dogs is a bit protective and has nipped at a worker in the past, so we make sure the dogs are contained in one room away from the construction. Poor girl, I think she has some trauma from a helper on the ranch who was too aggressive with her, and she is now wary of most men until she knows them. She’s fine with women. The other dog is a total goofball and wouldn’t hurt anyone, unless it’s a turtle, which for some reason send him into a frenzy. LOL

The latest. Here’s what the inside looks like. No lights or power in the kitchen except for the cooktop and fridge for now. I dragged some lights in this morning because I wanted to treat myself to pancakes. Looks like a cave!

And here’s the outside now that the new roof is on and skylights are in.
