ISO Warm/dark red, brown, and rust for fall

Brooklyn' s wardrobe colors are exactly ones I want for fall. Dark/warm earth tones of red, brown, rust. Some metallic. I don't plan on getting rid of the other colors I wear, but I want to start building a a new capsule of these colors.

The finds shown are my starting point. Not all are dark. Very few pants/sweaters/tops/toppers, 2 quite dressy tops, and why so many bags?? LOL

I'm thinking about what retailers might tend to carry these colors in clothing. (Shoes are another topic) I rarely see anything warm-toned at Boden, Talbots, or Club Monaco. I do think of Banana Republic and BR Factory, Anthro, Madewell, Massimo Dutti, Ralph Lauren, and any dept store with multiple brands if the colors are trending.

What retailers come to your mind when you think of these colors? Does anyone know how prevalent they are likely to be this fall?

I'll have a look around later today, Chris. And I've actually been saying quite a bit of brown (cool-toned too though) in stores here that are starting to display their Fall collections, so I am hopeful!

P.S. Massimo Dutti was also the first brand that came to mind.

I'm on the same path for fall! I've already got a pair of brown maryjane flats in my shopping cart at Massimo Dutti, and a striped shirt in blue/brown/black/white in my closet percolating while I consider Angie's points on this morning's blog. I'm also interested in dark red, but not sure yet how I'll incorporate it (likely a bag and or shoes/sneakers). As far as resources go - I'm not sure yet as it seems a little too early still. I also don't want to "load up" too early in the season. I've made that mistake before finding that there is still lots of deliveries to stores as late as October.

Thanks Inge! I can wear cooler colors also, but I really prefer the warmer ones.

Cat2 - "claret" which to me is a cooler berry-ish version of burgundy is a color I do have some of but would not put in this collection. I'm after the warmer reds. Will definitely check out those retailers.

LJP, good to know! And you make a fabulous point about it being too early now, and not loading up too early. I've done that with spring clothes the last two years (in early April) and I end up not always liking
things by the time I get to the actual season they were meant for. We're just starting to get cool early mornings and evenings (below 60F) but it warms up quite a bit during the day.

Chris, what happened to your Summer shopping?

I see warm earn tones at almost every retailer these days! But not as much in petites.

Peruvian Connection, Madewell, Banana Republic, Eileen Fisher, Amour Vert, Massimo Dutti, and Oak + Fin, tend to look very earthy these days.

Sept, Oct and Nov are the best times to shop for full collections! Dec is holiday and resort. January is sale. Feb is Spring.

My summer shopping was all over the place with way more returns than keepers. I'm just not liking the trends/colors this year and hard to find things that fit. So, I decided some weeks ago to give it a rest and wear what I already had/have. Other than the need for frequent laundering I can live with a pretty small summer wardrobe. It was cold and rainy through most of June, so the hot part of summer has been very short, at least so far.

Just had a look at the new arrivals at Boden, and they are showing a few warm-toned brown items, so definitely worth keeping an eye on this Fall, I think.

I also want warm brown tops for my fall/winter wardrobe. I was looking at the Boden cotton sweaters that Inge posted. Banana Republic also has warm tones. Aritizia sometimes has warm tones. I have a camel sweater from there, which comes in many colours.

Chris, Ralph Lauren does very good warm earth tones too! Go to their site. They do petites, and their service is impeccable. Personally, I love their POLO label.

I am looking for more dark red too. Not exactly burgundy/purple. Less blue and more like a true red. I think this colour is quite hard to find. I got one jumper this year. I also thrifted a dark red scarf and bought a dark red (admittedly more burgundy) bag on consignment. Think about trying second hand, especially for scarves and bags.

Here at retail there are lots of mid and lighter browns around: camels and tans. The deeper, warmer colours are not as ubiquitous.

Do you ever shop YOOX? I got this innue metallic crossbody bag, in bronze. Love it and duplicated it in copper. Both colours are still available (I think) and very affordable. (Also comes in various shades of silver for those who prefer that.)

I just got a Chicos flyer that had a color you might be interested in--it was called "sable" --I characterize it as a brown with a red tone. It might be something you would like. I think they have some prints in the color with other colors as well as a few solids. Good luck!

I want those colors too, especially the dark red! I've historically had much more luck finding my colors August- October, so they should start trickling in.

Kettlewell is a good place to check, cause you can sort by color. I think they only put new collections out about twice a year though, and things sell out kinda fast. I did take a quick look at PC- lotta cobalt (waves at Janet) and brighter orange atm though.

Angie yes I'll look at RL for sure. I do like POLO but (I think) that line does not come in petties like their regular line does. Overall this brand has a slim fit where often even the petites don't work for me but I do try from time to time. Definitely great quality! Just took a quick look - lots of chocolate brown and some burgundy showing up now in petite sizes. It's funny that I'm thinking "summer is over". There are 6 more weeks for me weather-wise before summer is truly over.

Thanks Brooklyn, I agree with you that the cooler browns seem a bit more prevalent than warmer tones. I have not shopped YOOX but like the finds I've seen here on YLF. For me it would mean 8-10 day shipping, not free (but not wildly expensive) returns, and free shipping only for orders over $250 but I'll give it some thought. I know, I'm spoiled!! That bag you show is gorgeous, but unfortunately the only colors left are cool ones incl a cool dark brown for those who are interested. But I do like the vibe of that brand and will look more. I live in a consignment/thrift wasteland except for one store 45 mins away that does sell their stuff online .... I think I need to take a closer look at poshmark, ebay etc for bags/scarves.

Chris I am a fan of Yoox for the occasional purchase as the quality of merchandise at amazing discounts makes it worth going to the trouble of online ordering. Fabulous for items that you are not worried about the fit - such as bags and known labels.

I hope you find what you are looking for, it's great that you have a plan for winter.

Hi. Chiccos at our local mall is showing a brownish red and camel for fall. They incude jewelry in the dark brown-red. I bought a pair of the camel pants on sale and will probably go back for some of are brown-red. It seems between cool and warm toned.

It may go well with a leather skirt I own that is more oxblood than burgundy. Go look. I have done best with warm colors at Consignment than regular retail which is mostly cool except for mustard for the last year. I want to add brown to my swim capsule but it just has not turned up. It doesn't help that I need a tankini style. What I have in brown is over 5 years old. I will also be checking the suggested retailers. Most offerings in brown are a cool brown.

Chiccos red is warm. It is more of a red orange.

Joy thanks for the info on Chicos, I have in fact been looking at that color on line. Not a lot of pieces yet - high rise/wide leg pants and short sleeved or lightweight tops (both not for me for fall) but I'll keep going back. As others have said it's a little early for fall collections. I agree that most of the browns right now are cool-toned but I do see a little of the warmer toned ones, especially in shoes/bags.
