ISO: Soft, drapey shorts...

In a solid dark color, with at least a 5 inch inseam and a waist that isn't too gathered. A bit of elastic is fine, or a small amount of drawstring...but not so gathered that they add a lot of bulk like the ones I've found in B&M stores to try on.

Anyone find such a thing?

I know! All the ones I've seen in stores so far are both too gathered and too short, leading to a sort of diaper-ish look. I don't so much wish I could sew...I know I lack the patience...I just wish I had a Diane G!

I am looking for these too. I found a pair with a 2" inseam that I bought...I call them my vitamin D shorts so I get a lot of sun exposure, but won't be wearing them as "real" shorts.

I can't wear polyester either so that eliminates a lot of shorts as well.

They are pleated, so only a bit drapey, with 5" inseam, and come in navy and black as well as other colors. They are poly, so wouldn't work for mtgirl, but maybe for Peri--?

Anthro tends to carry a few styles like this every year. Here is one (but in a print, not solid) that looks good. The inseam is 4" but remember that you can size up and wear them lower to get a little more length.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Still searching though. Sorry to be difficult but I'm being PPP. No pleats on an apple for sure. The olive anthro ones come close, but the embroidery would limit them too much I think, because then any top would have to be more plain. I might check them out though...they are the most like what I want so far.

Hey Peri, I just came across a bunch of flowy shorts on the Zara site. Do any of these strike your fancy? They don't seem to list any inseam lengths but Zara does have free shipping and returns if you don't have a store nearby. Remember they run small.

Those are some cute options, Diana, thanks for sharing those. Although I know most of them would not work on me. Sigh. Too short, too flared. I kind of like those sarong front ones, although they scare me a little too. I'd probably get the dreaded long butt in them. But I'm considering trying them. Summer dressing, ugh.
