ISO: collet necklace with pendant

Hi all

I am after something very specific again!

A collet necklace or Riviere necklace is a shorter style necklace (14 to 16 inches) that consists of a row of round or square gems (or rhinestones or crystals) that are individually set. Anna Wintour wears them a lot (pic 1). Usually in layers.

I am interested in one that has a large cut glass teardrop shaped pendant attached to it, like those shown in the Alexander McQueen photos (pics 2-3).

I have found lots on Etsy that don’t have a pendant, but very few that do.

I wonder if I’m using the right search term. I’ve tried “with pendant”; “teardrop” and “dangle” but with no luck.

I’d love one in teal, sapphire blue or a champagne gold. Any leads?

And an update on my pearl embellished clutch. Got one on order! Shown in pic 4. It is handmade in the Indian zardozi tradition. Not exactly baroque but the ornate embroidery, the colour combination and the sharp, geometric lines are very appealing to me. Close enough. Pic 5 is one of my inspiration photos. They are making it in a larger size for me - 9 x 6. Not huge but big enough. I am building a little baroque complement

That is a lovely clutch! Good find. I am not sure where I would start on finding a necklace, but I like your inspiration photo and wish you well in your search.

I can't help but like this type of necklace and you idea of baroque complement. The bag in pic no 4 is terrific.

Probably not the answer you are hoping for, but in a pinch, I wonder if you could buy the necklace and pendant separately, and have a jeweller attach the pendant to the necklace for you?

I did find a maker on etsy who had a couple of necklaces with pendants (here, and h ere) but not sure if they are quite what you are looking for.

Love your inspiration photos! Ditto about buying necklace and pendant seperately and then attaching them. Refine your Etsy hunt by putting cut glass pendant, baroque, rhinestone necklace, etc. I've also seen strips of rhinestones that could be attached in multiple layers like that if you have little jewelry tools. Maybe search for teardrop earrings too, that you could take apart.

Of course! Thanks suntiger and StyleDetective, I am totally willing to do that. I will renew the hunt but look for the pendant separately. It just makes it a bit harder because I’ll have to get the same finish (I want gold or antique gold) and similar looking stones. Much nicer when it’s all done for you I might try asking for a custom order.

And thanks for looking on Etsy StyleDetective. I actually already have the second one in my favourites. The style is very close but I’d like a larger pendant and a warmer colour.

She specializes in collet necklaces, in reproduction historical styles. Her custom settings range from simple to quite ornate. She does teardrop/pendant styles occasionally, depending on the paste stones she can find and having the settings made. Many of the stones she uses are high quality vintage, some with mirror backing which makes them incredibly sparkly. I have one of her Victoria's diamond necklaces:

I suggest you send her an email, either through Etsy or directly, and send your inspiration pictures and ask what she can do! She does custom/commission work very frequently.

Ooh, I see on the website that she does do teardrop style pendants like this one. I wonder if that could be combined with a collet necklace for Brooklyn.

It's really, really addictive. I only have two collet necklaces so far, but I also have a large brooch, two cross necklaces, 1790s gold hoop earrings and gold filigree bead necklace, several rings, several additional sets of paste earrings, lapis earrings, rose quartz earrings and necklace, and a magnificent pearl necklace set of two strings, one with 7 pearl drops added (commissioned after a portrait)... I know I'm forgetting some stuff. And I'm plotting a set of moonstones for everyday wear and a set of coral for historical use!

I am very interested in how Anna Wintour wears them layered to tie in different colours in her outfits. They are beautiful.

I was going to suggest the DIY option of making want you want from two pieces too. More creative and personal.

Jcrew has this style you could layer or easily add a center piece drop to ...
You can find Swarovski or other types at places like fire mountain gems, online.

When searching Etsy (which I mainly do to find comps for items I thrift), I find a lot of sellers do not use the most likely key words. I would try Anna Wintour necklace, for example.

Thanks Shevia. I have been using “Wintour necklace” with lots of results. I’d really like a teardrop version however and they are harder to find. I’ve tried “tennis necklace” too. Once I find the right term I suspect the results will come!

Ginger - I adore the historical reproduction jewelry! Brooklyn mentioned shopping at the Met and other museum stores in past threads - it is one of my required stops when visiting museums. Your friends pieces are amazing!

They almost always have those in stock in a variety of colors, can’t wait to see whatever you land on whether diy or custom ordered etc ..,

Brooklyn, I've had all the jewellery I wear custom-made, and haven't regretted it one bit.

I’m going to pursue a custom order first. I’ve made contact with the Etsy seller that Ginger recommended but she can’t do it unfortunately But I’m in talks with another Etsy seller so all is not lost!
