Is your style more boy hot or girl hot?

Never thought of it like that... but an article I read in Glamour made me wonder. What would be a style that appeals more to boys? More to girls? Does the concept even exist or is it simply a wrong way to look at it? (After all, our personal style appeals first and foremost to us).

Hey, what a fun read! While Gigi & Bella Hadid are wayyyy too young to be a style inspiration to me, I can't help but lurveeeeee Gigi in athleisure. She rocks that!

I think boys take a bit longer to get used to something trendy & edgy. It's like Janet mentioned in her post recently. Plus I think a girl is more likely to identify and think you're rocking cropped kick flares; while a boy may think you're just trying to rock your shrunken jeans!!!

I just finished reading. I knew they look very young but oh well. I tend to stay away from discriptive categories like "boy" or "girl" I feel as if it tends to limit the imagination and creativity.

To answer the question the best I can is that I like aspects of both sisters fashion choices. ,oh what I would be like with stylist and unlimited amount of money. Lol

For better or worse, I do think there is a tendency for men to prefer traditionally figure flattering pieces that are not too trendy. I think Maneera 's assessment hitd the nail on the head, while ledonna is quite right, too much focus here is bound to be a creativity killer.
As for me, I do not think the adjective hot applies to me! I'm too conservative. Boy cute, maybe (at least according to DH )

Interesting read… and topic. I think the concept does exist, at least to some extent, and I am not at all surprised to see that, according to this article, I would be considered more "girl hot" than "guy hot". However -- I do not think the term "hot" would describe me in any sense . I realize that I most often dress to fulfill my own inner creative needs (my body as a canvas) but, if I had to pick a side, I would say that I am more affected by the reactions of my female friends to my sartorial choices than I am by those of DH or any guy buddies. I agree with Maneera and Torontogirl that most men (at least the ones in my life) seem to prefer more traditional, figure flattering looks over those that are edgy, trendy or quirky/eclectic. And I tend towards quirky/eclectic (explaining my attraction to both crop kick flares and harem pants)… although I have had to temper that a bit over the years due to my environmental norms.

I'm not comfortable making these types of generalizations because it depends SO much on the boy/man where cultural norms and age play a huge role. But if you put a gun to my head, I would tend to agree with Maneera's second paragraph.

Boy Hot and Girl Hot is a heavily used stereotype, a great shorthand term for a word-lite article.

However in reality it is far too simplistic, two personality types Boy or Girl with the same taste and attractions.

Lol. I'm not sure about this, and I certainly wouldn't use the word "hot" to describe myself, but I think I know what you're getting at. What Maneera said about men generally taking a little longer to get used to a new trend is probably true.

What I think is also generally true -- emphasis on generally, because it's by no means always true -- is that men tend to like silhouettes that emphasize a woman's womanly features.

Oh, without a doubt I'm not 'boy hot' or 'girl hot' or 'hot' at all.

This declaration is informed by having perused the site 'Hot ot Not?' After careful examination, I've decided 'hot style' isn't very sexy. Like, that is, what hooker boots really say is, 'I expect you to pay my utility bill.'

I'm really too odd for either girl or boy hot as well. I think you hit the boy hot sweet spot with jeans, a tee, and shoes you can walk a long way in. A healthy no fuss look. The girl hot sweet spot involves trendy frippery that serves no real purpose. Colour, pattern, dangly earrings... Lol.

I have a feeling my style is more appealing to women than to men. Maybe I shouldn't confess it, but while I've heard of a Hadid--I think Gigi, but I couldn't be sure--I had no idea who they are/why they are famous. After reading this article, I have a little bit more of an idea. I think it's a fun read, because I love looking at the pictures and comparing the styles. And I do see a little of my style in each of theirs, here and there. (Boyfriend jeans? Check. Drapey black pants? Check.)

Haha. Sharan the only reason I know of the Hadids is because I recently wanted to figure out more about the Athleisure trend. They're both models; the older one - Gigi - is 19 or 20 yrs old, I think. It's no wonder we don't know them....they're too young!

My style is more boyish I'd say, at least this year. I think I feel like myself in straight cut clothing, and preppy clothing that is fairly hard wearing.

Maneera, thank you for the visual! Now I am curious about Athleisure too. I wish I had this girl's legs just so I could sport an oversize bomber as elegantly as she does... And you are right: Fashion is one of those things less accessible to most (straight) boys. I have male gay friends who know more about fashion than many girlfriends though.

On this, in our department at work we have two male gay members out of 40 (a lot of young women); you can pick them out right away at departmental reunions because they are dressed so exquisitely yet still casually. And they are also often the only ones to recognize my own fashion efforts, I mean specific trends I'm trying to do.

Ledonna N., True that it is unfair to compare ourselves with people who are after all teenagers with the means of a 70 yr old successful banker. lol. Thank you for reminding. And you have a good point about creativity. Imagine labeling anything creative as "girl hot"! It sure puts a damper on one's inspiration.

Torontogirl, El Cee, Aziraphale, rachylou, what a good point. I am with you on this one. To me, I wonder who wants to say "I'm hot" (other than Paris Hilton)? It seems strange, somehow brazen to use this quality on ourselves in general terms.

El Cee, I like how you frame this. The real more interesting question would be: whose reactions affects me more, girl's or boy's (as opposed to who would be more attracted to my style because frankly who cares). So the question becomes about what is our intent, rather than what is our effect on others.

Angie, it's true about the age factor too! Because if one concludes that they dress for boys, then what age? Same for girls. And many other factors. As Roseandjoan you also smartly point out.

Aziraphale, yes, straight guys will use their level of sexual arousal to judge an outfit, whereas we know to look for details and have different considerations in mind.

Which leads me to think that it is very sad, in fact, if arousal alone dictates one's tastes, it would prevent them from accessing other appreciations of fashion. It would be blinding. We need the input of female gay members on this!
