Is your scissor-happy gene alive and well?

Mine is.

I'm often scissor-happy when the weather warms up. I think my Gap Sexy Boyfriends will get the chop this Summer. I don't wear them after getting my Nikki's, Camerons and Catherines.

Who else can feel their scissor-happy coming alive?

Last week I got my colored skinnies out to hack them off. I tried them on, fell in love again, then put the scissors away. Just not ready to let them go.

I've thought about chopping my Gap BFs too! I think I might wear them more as shorts than as jeans. Most of my other expendable jeans are too snug in the thigh to chop into shorts. They're just going to Goodwill or eBay.

I do have a pair of cobalt JBrands that have always bugged me because they're too short, and they stretch out a bit with wear. They might be good shorts candidates.

I am very very scissor happy indeed :D. I am chopping my red, green and hot pink jeggings to shorts too :).

I have not done this in forever. But, I'm more motivated to do it because some fits are hard-to-find in shorts, and also with the trend toward rolling, which means I don't have to add a fininshed hem. Meaning, I should evaluate pants and crops for potential to be re-born rather than just toss.

I'm planning to scissor my red and my citron full length jeans so that they are my shorts ( length around the knee). The colored jean trend may be waning in our area and color would vary my summer shorts collection.
Thinking of scissor fun, I've been watching street fashion in Dublin and have seen some college girls in some great outfits that involve cutting out the neckline of a graphic tee (usually grey) so that almost falls off the shoulders on one side, at least. The sleeves are cut off too. This is worn over a racer back tank and regular tank, at least one of which is a color and jeans. Cons seem popular here with this age and sometimes their color matches one of the tanks ( just the straps of the tanks are visible). I've not been able to get a photo.

Yes! That is how I make my shorts for summer, I take a lot of my winter jeans and pants and hack them off.

I have a different scissors vision. I like the idea of a bolero top for long bicycle rides instead of separate arm warmers. But they only come in black (not my color) and paying $35 seems silly when I can just cut off a long-sleeved athletic top that runs < $7 on sale at Kohl's.

I've been thinking about this since I saw Neel's adorable shorts yesterday. I'm sooooo chicken, though! I really like her length--rolled to the bottom of the knee. I'm assuming that I will need the knee/top of calf width of whatever pants I choose to be fairly slim?

What great ideas here. I admit I never do this, probably because I do not have a tailor where I live. I have to wait until I travel to SF or LA and then I have to find someone who will do the job in a day. I should learn to sew.

Cocolion - I can't sew to save my life! Lol! I can cut though ;). Jeans and tees don't need hemming when cut. Unless you dislike the rough edges of course!

I have a pair of jeans I've been meaning to cut off, but I can't decide on the length. I also really liked Neel's cutoffs the other day, so I might try that long length. The jeans are fairly fitted. They're a great black denim wash but old bootcuts that are hemmed too short for me - I got them at a thrift store with the goal of modifying them.

Last week the Gap here had a cutoff event where I think you brought your old jeans and they provided scissors. I was wonder if they were going to do that with their overstock of the raw-edge straight skimmer jeans - they clearly didn't sell well and they'd be great for shorts.

I just chopped off a hand-me down pair of Old Navy jeans last night. They were about four inches too short for me in their original flared form, but they are great as longer shorts now.

This post is so timely for me! I just set out my jeans (old Rock & Republic back when they premium) boot cuts that are baggy and was eyeing them for the scissor treatment. I'd been looking at the Gap jean short ads and it just seemed like such a good idea...we'll see how it turns out!

Definitely scissor happy. At the line dance weekend I went to they had a class on t-shirt cutting and it was so fun and interesting.

Actually...someone should take my scissors away from me. I just turned a denim jacket into a vest. The arms were too tight. I have some "new" denim shorts and a t-shirt with a too-high neckline is now wearable. I'm eyeballing other things in my closet...some too-short dresses will make cute tunics.

Lisa, I've never chopped either. :^) There's no way I could do it unless the jeans had a hole or something in the knee and would get tossed otherwise. I don't have any kind of sartorial skill whatsoever, whether it be with sewing or hacking.
