A few months ago, I purchased a Free People camo t-shirt on sale, planning on wearing it when the weather warmed up. Then I read in a NYT column (“Ask Vanessa”—fashion related) that wearing camo by non-military is “akin to stolen valor,” especially now with the conflict in the Ukraine.

I was taken aback and am now questioning my purchase. (The column really addresses army green cargo pants, which I would not hesitate wearing, personally.) I’m generally not attracted to camo but I purchased it after seeing it styled on an older blogger whose fashion choices generally align with mine, and since most of my t-shirts are solid colored, I thought it would add some interest.
