Is this THE white shirt?

That is, is it the shirt that will do me for any white shirt purposes for the next 5 years (at least!)?
This is the Veronika Maine shirt I ordered, mentioned on my other thread. It was softer and much more transparent than I expected, and also a bit broader in the body that I might have liked.

The pictures show a few different angles, including how much extra fabric is in the side. Plus a few ways I'd wear any white shirt I bought.

Hi Anne, what a beautiful shirt. I am wondering if its worth some tailoring to get a perfect fit for you. Does the transparency both you at all.

Deb, the transparency does bother me, though I have a nude tank which works fine underneath it. My other worries are that it seems like a cut more suited to a curvier figure than mine - it bags around the bust and doesn't really go in at the waist where mine does (I am too long waisted) The size I got was the last one available and I would need it that size for shoulder width, so tailoring might be a good idea.
Also it is soft, where I was imagining something crisper. It would cost me $10 to return (maybe in addition to shipping) which is a disincentive, and because I got it on sale it was maybe half the price of other shirts, though still on the pricey side for me.
I am not sure about the style at all. I think it might be dated.

Hi Anne,
the shirt looks lovely under the dresses, but I wonder about versatility if you need to wear a tank underneath?
The fit looks O.K. in pics.
Oh the frustrations of ordering online!

I really like all the seaming detail on the shirt but I worry that the transparency will limit its function for you.

It is a beautiful shirt. However, if your are looking for ONE white shirt, I don't think this is it. I would go for a much more basic, fitted shirt which isn't this transparent. Then you will get the most use out of it.

I agree with Ingunn. This is a cute shirt for someone who wants an alternative to their simple white button front, but I don't see it as a perfect multipurpose shirt. If you are already having reservations about the limitations of it, I would keep looking. The fit is not perfect and the transparency is bothersome. There are so many white shirts out there that I'm sure you can find your perfect multipurpose one with a bit more patience.

The fit of the shirt is perfect in the shoulders, so you would need to have it taken in at the waist... happens to me all the time! I also think it may be a tad long for you.

I don't think this is "the" white shirt for you - you already have reservations, and it is very thin and transparent, no matter how it fits. Get one that does not require a cami so it will be the most flexible. Get a very soft but substantial enough fabric so you look forward to putting it on often.

Sounds like the majority are saying I should return it. I should say that the moment I tried it on I thought "if I was in a brick and mortar shop there is no way I would be buyding this"!)

OK, so my first thought is that I love this for my style. It hits all my buttons - flared shape, slightly transparent, drapey cut, soft, princess cut. However, I realize that it's not a crisp classic white shirt, so if that is what you are looking for, you should keep looking. And send this one to me. =P

It's really hard finding the perfect white shirt for you. If crisp is what you're after, this is not it. I feel your frustration and I wish you had Brooks Brothers there.

ETA: I'm drooling over your sheath dress and pinstriped pencil, though! Have you tried the blue 3/4 sleeved shirt (that I told you to donate, lol) with them?

Clarire I like the dress and skirt too. The dress is more than 10 years old but still going strong. The skirt is even older, was hand me down but is of wonderful quality. It is also a little tight at the waist, so i can't wear it all that often! I haven't tried them with the blue shirt.

I see you've decided about the shirt, and I think it is the right decision...but what a pain. I feel you on the frustrations of online shopping.
