Is this skirt too short? What do y'all think? I sorta feel like a spooky Shirley Temple.

For going out/general flitting about, I think it's fine. For work, probably too short, yes. I like the Wednesday Addams cheerleader vibe.

Maybe. It's a skater look.
Angiehad something about dress style and length re:: how a tapered sheath dres can be shorter but an A line or flippy dress less so( on grown ups), so I wondrer if this is one of those situations- proportions? I think the sweater skews it that way too, whereas some other style top might be less so.

I don't think a pencil or sheath dress this length would read as short as the skater skirt does. But with the sweater (which I love and would go smashingly with other items) and the sneaks, it definitely reads "cheerleader". You undoubtedly have the legs to wear the skirt; I just don't think that is the look you are going for.

I didn't think about the cheerleader angle. That's true. Just wandering about Hipsterville. I rather like the idea of Wednesday Addams cheerleader...

...but still, maybe I should give it away. A shorter top is even more kiddie-bopper, because it's a high waist skirt. That's a kid trend.

I think it's a fun look for "wandering about Hipsterville"! Love the Wednesday Addams cheerleader idea--I think the black and the matching black sneakers give it that "don't mess with me" look. Also, the undone hair. It could actually be a hipster cheerleader look.

another thought: Would you wear it with a denim shirt, untucked, and white sneakers? Again, for hanging out, not working. What I'm saying is, the skirt does not look too short for casual wear, and I think it can fill in for shorts or jeans.

No not at all. I think if it were a straight skirt I might question the length depending on what else you're wearing.

That's the issue with skirts length appropriateness, it depends on different factors that aren't always the same: audience, event, fabrication, a-line, straight, pleated, activity, heels, flats, bare arms, plunging neckline? It all depends.

I never thought about pairing the skirt with a denim shirt. I'm gonna try it. I *did* think about white sneakers, tho. Got a pair of white leather ones today. I've been wanting white shoes... hehe, don't tell Angie. I'm getting closer to doing a whiteout look

On you, never. At Bristol Farms the other day I saw a woman somewhere between your and my ages wearing a shorter skirt than that. It was a look. She spoke with some kind of European accent and I thought, how perfect. I think you have the environment to make it a non issue.

When you are a centenarian and still dressing like hipsterville, you will have an article in Vogue about how hip you are..There will probably be a list of what you should wear according to your style at 100...smile...

I think the shift toward outfit thoughts is good. Not skirt length per se, but how or can you use it on a cool outfit and for what occasions.

Borderline:-)and tan hose accentuates that even more-but if you'll wear for a sporty event will still do it. It's all I can think as you styled with the sneakers and sporty sweater...BTW looks very intentionall like it is.

I have a similar skirt and seem to have problems styling it as well. I like the idea of wearing it with flat sneakers. I think the sweater makes it read more cheerleader than the shoes. But I actually didn't see cheerleader until I read the comments.

The skirt length doesn't bother me but some people, to be truthful, like myself, might approach with caution because of the cheerleader vibe.

Honestly, I think you look ready to walk down the runway.
Intentional, dark cheerleader, yes.
If you have the self-confidence to embrace the look, I think you should totally keep it.

Funny, I tried on a very similar length Vince skirt on sale recently. I rather liked it but it did feel almost like wearing shorts at that length. I think with the right look (spunky boots, cute hat, tights) it's not too short!

Ok, I will try thinking of the skirt as a genre item and see then. Try it with different shoes/boots. Nix the sweater if I will step one foot outside my neighborhood. I wonder if putting my hair up would help spooky cheerleader any (within neighborhood bounds, that is)?

It's all about dignity, really. Whether or not you look like you have Gossip Girls downloaded to your phone.

Don't change a thing, Rachy! I think this outfit looks perfect as is.
I would feel self-conscious in a pencil skirt that length, which is much more revealing as well as bombshell. With a pleated skirt, the fullness actually covers more of the legs, especially when you sit down. A very full skater skirt is different because it is shorter and so flippy it is likely to flip up. With this, no problem unless you are walking downstairs or in a high wind.

(I couldn't understand the suggestion, on my gentlewoman thread, that I was too playful for gentlewoman style, but maybe my dissenting opinion here is evidence of that?)
