Is this skirt cocktail party appropriate?

A first timer and a fashion dummy here! I have my husband's company cocktail event coming up in 3 days and I don't know what to wear! I have the skirt in the link. Do you think it would be cocktail party appropriate if I paired it with a simple but elegant black top with sheer black hose and black pumps?

That is a beautiful skirt!

How long is it on you and what is your age? My only concern would be that for a work-related function, if it is this short, even with elegant partners, it could read as too...well...too, you know. Shiny, super short....hmmm.

It does depend on your DH's field, of course, and the general group.

It's beautiful but really short. I keep things more modest when I'm going to an event with my husband's business associates. Even if I had the legs to wear it, I'd save a look like this for a different kind of party.

If that's not a concern for you, and you choose to wear this skirt, I'd keep the top very covered up to balance the amount of leg on display. Long sleeves, no cleavage, not tight.

Thanks Suz for the reply! I am in my early 30's. I am petite (5'4 and a UK size 8/10). The skirt hits me on my mid thigh (certainly not as short as seen on the model!). Well, I live in the Middle East (Dubai to be specific!) and my husband's company is into corporate event organizing. So, there surely would be conservative Muslim clients (and their wives!).

Do you think it might be ok with a solid hose? (Crossing my fingers here! :D)

I was all on board, until you mentioned Dubai and conservative muslim clients. So... I would say get the skirt anyway - and save it for something else. Definitely not this party.

For my part, this is something I would wear to the ballet, or symphony, or show. I would wear it with a fine-gauge, black turtleneck or mock-neck, upscale black hose that isn't too sheer, but has maybe a bit of a sheen to them (take a look at Wolford), black heels, and some sparkly dangle earrings or a heavy gold cuff with some simple diamond studs. Keep the line clean.

I just tried on the skirt again (memory loss about the length and all!) and it hits about 2 inches above my knee. But I think I agree with you all. Last thing I want is to offend DH's clients!

Moreover, I have an excuse now to shop for a new dress

Yes, I think it's a good idea. This would read as too flashy even if not super short....although it is amazing how different things look on shorter people than the tall models, isn't it? I always have to do an adjustment.

I'm 5'4 as well and always have to do an adjustment. I like websites that tell you how tall the model is.

I think that skirt, depending on the top would be ok in the UK, but not as you say in Dubai.

If you would rather a skirt than a dress, how about a pencil skirt that sits just on or below the knee? If you are going to go to a lot of functions in the future then you could invest in a skirt now and then vary the tops.
