is this shirt too big?

Package just arrived from Madewell. I ordered their largest size. First, I can scrunch the sleeves so I don't care about that, but I'd wear the shirt untucked at least a lot of the time. Also are the pockets (size, placement) really wrong for busty me?

I'm afraid that it fits well in the bust and wouldn't if I go down in size.

It's so much more complicated than just getting out of plus sizes. Sigh.

What sort of a shirt is it meant to be? Is it supposed to be loose and boxy or not? What is the shoulder fit like? From the pic that looks too big to me.

I hear you about the bust fit.

You could have the sides taken in by a tailor, and scrunching up the sleeves would help, but I am not loving this. I think it is a bit too sloppy and masculine looking on you because of the pockets size and placement, very faded denim, and general all around oversize-ness.

I think you can do a lot better. I think that I'd like to see you in something a bit darker chambray/denim, higher placed and smaller -- or no pockets, with a crisper look, more fitted to skim your waist and hips.

If it's fit for a larger bust, take to the tailor and have it taken in in the waist with darts in the front and/or back.

The sleeves are too long as well, at least to my eye. But it depends on how you're going to wear it. If you're going to wear it with the cuffs buttoned, then you need to have the tailor shorten the sleeves to your arm length.

Otherwise, roll those sleeves up, lovey.

I agree with Claudia. I am not a fan of how big it is, but also it seems just a bit too washed out in color for you. You deserve better!

Thanks, everyone. Claudia, I really like the shirt you linked to. I have another from Madewell that's a darker wash--it must be coming in a separate delivery. But I agree that first of all this one!s too large, and too shapeless. But also, I fear that the proportions are all off too, and that if I don't find one in a petite, it's just not going to work. Hence I start feeling frustrated. Anyway back this one goes.

Yes too big and boxy and just not suiting your body. If they have a size down I'd like to see that one.

Mochi, I tried about a million denim shirts, including this one and a couple from J Crew. They all fit more or less the way this one did - I'm a 32D, and Madewell/J Crew seem cut for someone flatter-chested than me. I ended up with this one, which I love:

FWIW, I got a small in this but the Madewell small would've popped a button if I took a deep breath.

Thanks for confirming my feeling. I also spoke with customer rep and asked them to send me the current size and one size down in the wait listed item, which she said is a "boy shirt" or something like that, so fitted more snugly than what I posted here, which she said was a boyFRIEND shirt cut more boxy and roomy. We shall see. I really would like to own one beautiful chambray shirt.

Boy shirts, boy FRIEND shirts.....the one you posted just looks like a plain old man's shirt. *Madewell* could do better on that one, IMO. Fingers crossed that you find the perfect one.

Just adding to the yes it is crowd. Having met you, I can say that this is more than oversized on you, and you should hold out for better!
