The safety pin ruins the scarf to my eye. Otherwise, I like its folksy vibe.

Wow, Anna-, regr-etsy is hillarious, LOL!!:-)

Regretsy for the win! Rachy, you make me chuckle all the time. I wouldn't say it's ugly but it confuses me. Perhaps you could pass it along to someone in your neighborhood who might 'get' it.

So I feel like if this were prada, it would be impeccably hand embroidered and beaded super intricately. From what I can see, this scarf is not quite that.

Have to say I'm inclined to dislike it just because I don't like skinny scarves at all. They always just look silly and wrong and unintentional to me. I know they're supposed to be fringe trending right now, but Im still not a fan.

Also the embroidery and sequins remind me of Chinese house slippers....

It might work as a belt?

I'm with Angie. I like the folksie vibe too, sans the pin. (But I do have a high threshold for folksy vibe!) Perhaps as a narrow belt or even used as a tie.

Are those daisies?! I think you could use that pin to open locks or something. You never know when it might be useful.........

I'm going to go with a no on this one!

Maybe Bernard could wear it as a bow tie?

Approprio said Prada' and Ginger said 30s/40s and Angie has thrown down the gauntlet. Oh no! Lol! Now I'm gonna have to really rack my brain and wear it (too short for a belt).

I would not wear this to anything, anytime, but I have lived in both northern and southern California for many years and I could see this on the street there and it wouldn't even phaze me. Nary a snicker or feeling of superiority. So the context would be the supreme criterion to me. (honest reactions here, ok???)

Could work with BOHO outfit, but yes.. lose the safety pin.

Echoing others that anything can be beautiful in the right context.

IMHO the pin & cableknit sweater shows the scarf off in its worse light.
I wonder how it would look with a very plain neutral background (sweater, blouse, jacket) or yellow background so that the black would pop or veiled under a gauzy black scarf so it's not so strong or ... yellow/green shoes/bag/belt/hat to move your eye around.

If you don't have have the right companion clothes, and don't have a lot of that bright yellow- green in your wardrobe,
do you want to invest your attention in finding a way to wear it?

There is something intriguingly pretty about it but it's also strong and hard to work with, (especially if the yellow and green are not your favorite colors ) so it's okay to pass on, and yet it's small enough that,
if you like it, keeping it in your closet might not bring too much clutter. But Ugly isn't the right word for it.

At my house this would be going into my daughters' dress-up drawer - always a handy receptacle for interesting things I can't quite get rid of but will never wear

I think I'll join your mother in this one--and reserve my laughter for the safety pin. Safety isn't the right context for this statement piece.

I think it could work on Lilypup brilliantly!

It is not a useful scarf for warmth, or holding your pants up, it is purely decorative. And I am not sure you feel that way about it.

I think how the scarf is perceived, depends on what you wear with it. Most scarves I have seen are a lot wider then that one, that one almost resembles a tie. I know with some outfits, people like to use a scarf as a statement piece, with that scarf, I would only use it as the statement piece if you were trying to go for a cutesy playful outfit. Do let us know what you ended up doing with it and how you ended up wearing it

Haha, I love all the opinions! I can also see a healthy dose of Flower Power influence, but interpreted in a more earthy 70s way. This is the challenge!

Coming back to say that it looks like things that a child makes and gives to you, expecting to see you wear it every day. Could you add another length of felt so it could be worn as a belt? And wouldn't a head band be a good accessory for the bakery? Maybe you could wrap and pin it around your wrist for a bracelet.

Can I try it out on Lilypup first? (Hey Mikey!)

Oh, Joy, that's what I was thinking - a craft project gift. Awful but you have to wear it.
Good luck with it, Rachy.
Regretsy was a great site. It closed a couple of years ago, but i just did a quick search now and can easily find what it was about.

What? Regretsy was a real site?! (I.e., not just a bad purchase from Etsy?)

ROFL! Seriously, though, I'm not too fond of that scarf.

Yeah I should have clarified Regretsy was a real site. I'm not that clever with word play.

I could see it as a belt, wrist wrap, head band, and just hanging around the neck like an untied bowtie! It's not ugly, it's cute (!) but unless styled differently, it will look off and you may get some stares.

Good ideas. Maybe with a collared shirt... Except I don't wear those!

I'm really not into crafty wear, so for me it's a no. But THANK YOU for this fabulous post. It was such fun to read last night!!!

I AM going to try the headband. I just want y'all to know

ps. Sochi, just want you to know the collared shirt thing was not connected to your suggestions. I was thinking about my inclination to wear it Girl Scout style.
