Is this outfit ok for Mardi Gras?

Hi lovelies!

I haven't been around much lately as I have been preparing for a Mardi Gras Engagement Party I'm having for my son and his fiance on Saturday. Fifty people and counting...We usually have a Mardi Gras party every few years but not on this scale...I was thinking I better start figuring out what to wear. I want to be comfortable because I will be working like a dog, but thought it would be fun to at least wear the appropriate colors of Mardi Gras (purple, green and gold).

I know most aren't a fan of the cropped pants, these are from BR and I sort of regret getting them because they are hard to style but they are the perfect color....do any of these outfits work or should I skip these pants all together? Please, honest feedback is appreciated...you wont hurt my feelings.

ps excuse the bad hair day-I'm in the middle of cooking:)

I prefer the proportion of #2 better. I hope you enjoy your Mardi Gras party, I have always wanted to be in NOLA for Mardi Gras but have not made it there at that time of year (yet). Congrats for your son's engagement, you will look fab at the party, I love your use of the "appropriate" colors, just try not to work too hard, enjoy the moment!

Those colors are perfect for Mardi Gras! I think you've done an excellent job of styling those hard-to-style cropped pants. I really like both looks, but have a slight preference for #1. That blouse just seems more festive.

Thanks for your votes, ABC and Deb. I like 2 also, but the cardigan doesn't cover my rear and I'm not sure if that's a good look. I should have snapped a rear view picture!

I love the colors in your outfit (and for your Mardi Gras party)! I prefer the proportions in #2. I like how the top picks up the colors in the sweater and pants. I think you wear the cropped length really well -- no leg shortening at all!

I really like #2 but ideally I would prefer to see it with (low) heeled sandals or wedges I think. But not because your legs look short Love these colours!

You look terrific in both theses outfits! But it sounds as if you might be more comfortable in #1, so that would be the one to go with. Congrats to your son, and have a great time!

I like the column of color effect in #2. But I also bat part-time for Team Rear View so i hear if you are uncomfortable about that. If you do a belt with #1 I might try a wider one. I like the color combos.

Jules-good pointer about wedges or sandals, but this color is tricky and not sure what would look right. These animal print shoes are about the only thing I have that I think will work.

Hm, now that you mention the belt on #1. I'd try without a belt but add several festive longish (but varying in length) necklaces, to replicate the Mardi Gras necklaces

I like #2 better. And definately add some beads!

However, if you are going to the real Mardi Gras, you would be waaay too dressed up. We used to buy a pair of jeans, couple of tees and sneakers from Walmart so we could just throw them away after the long Mardi Gras weekend. No way to get the "party sludge" out of clothes!

Thistle, you are too funny! Party sludge is a new term to me, and I'm hoping I wont be dealing with that on Saturday:)

Somehow, I associate Mardi Gras with Rio, so you're wearing WAY too much and are missing feathers in back <gr>. But I like #2 as a more interesting look, and the top won't show minor spatters.

Rachylou, I really like 2 from the front, but not sure about the back side view.....better snap a picture of that and see. I have some gray sweaters that are longer but I love the purple color so much more with this...hmmmmm....maybe I should go rent a costume!

I like #2, it looks more streamlined and you look as slim as you probably are and even dressy.

I kind of prefer #1 (without a belt I think but WITH multiple long gold necklaces or beads if possible). #2 is fine but seems more office casual than #1, which seems more party festive to me for whatever reason. And I love the shoes with it!

#2 for sure and a little bling wouldn't go wrong. You totally rock those pants, the cropped length is nice on you. I like how the tone in the shoe kind of echoes the pant colour and leads the eye on down.

I like #2 a little better, have you tried the blouse from 1 unbelted with the cardi from 2? (are they the same color?) Oh and beads would be lovely.

JJsloane, I tried your suggestion, the sweater and blouse are almost the same color but the blouse has a neckline that doesn't really lay right or work with the cardigan, darn.

I took some more photos of the top in 1 without the belt and from behind in both variations, I think I will post another thread for some additional feedback. Thanks for your help!

Angie, Your too sweet and funny! I don't know whether to push the comedy or therapy button:) I know these crops are not on your list of favorites, I think I have learned my lesson but since I can't take them back I am determined to wear them!
