Is this look too young?

I'm not really into age-segregated dressing but this one makes me wonder...

I just ordered a denim vest from American Eagle because their denim jacket fits me so well: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/p.....at4260032#

I plan to wear it mostly over summer dresses. I have a couple that have spaghetti straps or similar and just aren't covered up enough for me for in public. But when I looked around Pinterest for pics of vests over dresses, I mostly just found pics of really young people wearing the look. Granted, most pics on Pinterest are of young people so maybe that's the reason...

So is this a decent plan for a 40 yr old MOTG?

I don't think it's too young. It is actually fitted and the edges are clean (not cut off). I think you can work it just fine.

I see no reason for you being too old for this style. Like you pointed out, Pinterest is populated by young people, they aren't necessarily representative of the whole population. Wear the vest with confidence!

Not to be a nay-sayer - but - I do think this might read a bit young for our age (I'm 40 too). It's not just the vest though, it's also that I think spaghetti straps often look kind of juniors.

BUT - I am totally prepared to eat my words after seeing the outfit. It could totally work done right!

Cinnamon Fern, if I'm wearing the vest then the spaghetti straps won't show. But I'm sure ready to be corrected if I'm veering away from age appropriate.

I have seen some very stylish moms in denim vests. Honestly, the look of this one does not veer too young. If it were cut off with frayed edges, their think it would read young. Unless you can do the RATE thing, so maybe not necessarily!

I don't think the vest is too young... but I think long hair left down, the vest, sundress and ballet flats would be too young a look.

I think it really depends on ow you put it all together in the end. This is after all not a uniform. I see what Rachy means, but I also envision both a mature look with loose hair, vest, sundress and ballet flats, and a very young one without problems. I'm sure you can pull this off.

Shoulder length hair and sandals should be good!

I think one just needs something to signal high school boys not to chat you up. Awkward!

I wear one like this all summer and am much older than you are. As long as the hair is a neatly trimmed cut and you aren't in short shorts or a mini skirt and flip flops I think you'll be fine.

I'm NOT a really young person (43), so here's a photo for you. : )

Buy it, you won't regret it! I used this a lot last summer over dresses. With my IT shoulders, I made sure the dresses/skirts were a-line or full to compensate for the lighter color. This vest in particular I got at Madewell. It was originally priced in the $80's, but I pounced when it got down to the $60's. Well worth it because it's thin and soft...perfect for my HOT summers!

I don't think I could wear it to work, but I sure would wear it to the playground! If I had little kids! Or grandchildren! SO cute.

Gosh I hope denim vests aren't age inappropriate. I just got myself a Levi's longer, oversized denim vest. Yes it was being sold in the BP area which is a little embarrassing at my age. But I love it.

Not age inappropriate at all. It's all in how we wear it I say. AJ 's look is perfect. She looks age appropriate, stylish and "grown up". Sounds like it would be a useful addicts to your wardrobe.
