Is this jacket outdated?

I've had this Hayden-Harnett Nora swing coat for awhile. It's made of linen, with leather trim. I had been contemplating getting rid of it, but then I noticed Angie blogged about a jacket today (in the Nordstrom Half-Annual picks post) that reminded me of my HH jacket.

So what do you think? Should I hang on to the Nora for spring?

Hmm... I'm no expert, but I'm not a fan of the tabs on the sleeves. The collar has the right vibe, but the Rachel Zoe version has much narrower sleeves too.

I would hang onto it until spring and try styling it then. See how it feels and if you will wear it!

I think the sleeves are skinnier in current models, can you take them in?

this is an interesting question and comparison to me.
The short swing coat seems an unusual piece and not one I see everyday on the street or even on mag pages. So I can look at the "new" and the "old" and see that they are different, but does that actually register in my brain as "dated" the way something that had been fading from common view would, or do I kind of force myself into a comparison and then go, oh, it should be more this or that?

Would a fashonista be able to say, Oh, that is so 2010, while if I see it styled in a pleasing way, I think, oh,, interesting fun swing coat, yeah. Because I don't have any brain recognition pathways devoted to out-of-date swing coats.

IK -- Good idea! I think I would like it more with narrower sleeves.

upfrumped -- verrrrryy interesting viewpoint. Now you've totally got me thinking too. I'm not sure what I would compare this to either. Swing coats do go in and out of style, but what is it about this particular one that would identify it as outdated [rhetorical question]? I think it's about 5 or 6 years old, BTW.

I am kind of with Unfrumped - it doesn't scream any time period to me and so does not feel dated IMHO. Of course if you hate the tabs, off with their heads, lol! You might also try it with some black leather or coated bottoms and see what happens.

I think I have to say it does look dated, even with the tabs off. The shapes of all the component parts of it are just different enough to make the whole effect different to the more current model.
Sure its up for camouflaging into an ok outfit but Im guessing that is why you need a straight answer from us - there is already doubt in your mind about it. If money is not the concern - out.
