Is this good or bad? Browsing the NAS catalog

I looked at the NAS scan posted here, and I didn't want anything, other than the orange leather jacket and plaid pants that someone pointed out. And I'm not planning to get them, I just admired them. Am I stagnating? Or are the styles a-changin'?

Hey, if they don't speak to you, they don't speak to you. I don't think you're stagnating at all - I suspect there's a bit of style shift brewing in you.

Una I didn't see a lot I wanted either, which makes me sad because I wanted EVERYTHING last year. My bank account doesn't mind this too much I'm planning to make my fall must have list and take it with me, and wing it.

Shannon, it's also possible that I have a version of just about everything I like. I saw lots of things I would have bought but already own in some form (bright pants, booties, etc.). I guess I'll be SYC for NAS!

Aida, glad I'm not alone. Winging it can be dangerous for me, but I too have a list now!

Una, I'm not planning to get anything, either. The orange and teal jackets caught my eye, and there were python boots, but realistically I don't think there's a place in my closet.

I think it's good to be able to look through a catalog and not want everything... wasn't it not too long ago that we all had giant, overly-ecclectic wardrobes full of shiny things that didn't work together? That said, Angie has pointed out that the sale includes many more items than the catalog shows - you may be drawn in yet!

Don't forget there are things in the sale that don't make the catalog. I found things I like in the catalog (same orange jacket and plaid pants) but I always buy in a panic at the sale and end up returning everything. Last year I ended up getting most of what I returned cheaper later on, but I don't covet the big ticket items or the very limited supply ones.

Good point about the catalog only being a fraction. Last year most of what I bought weren't in the catalog, I think.

Good for your wallet! And it's still early (way early)! I'm sure they'll be plenty of fall goodies that speak to you as the time gets closer!

Bad for mine. Not that i usually shop the NAS but i just know that a good majority of this years fall trends scream my name. @_@ I said i was done shopping for summer and i *cough*mayhavestartedshoppingforfallalready*cough* this is the earliest i've ever started for sure.

It sounds to me like you're in a good spot. I have some big ticket items that I've been saving up for, so am particularly excited about NAS this year; however, I hope it's not the same situation for me every year.

By the time Angie posts her NAS pick lists - I'm sure there will be tons of things that we all want to get!

I took a quick look at the NAS catalogue scan too, and the only thing that really grabbed my attention was the teal leather jacket, but the thing is - in the past, it's not the catalogue that got me going - it was Angie's pick lists.

I'm somewhat interested in a nice new watch, and I do like the looks of that teal leather jacket, but I'm not totally sure that buying a *teal* leather jacket is the way to go for my first leather jacket in years.

Not shopping for now (unless absolutely necessary), and will wait until NAS - looking forward to it

Una, while the catalogue shows you versions of what you already have (I've got that right, I hope?) and thus doesn't entice, do you also have wardrobe holes you've identified that are NOT represented in the catalogue? If so, it *may* be a problem (though of course, as everyone's said, you're in a great place!)

Otherwise, ie, no potholes on the fall horizon... enjoy! I'd be proud as Punch and strutting like a peacock to be that comfortably closeted!

I too saw stuff in the catalog that caught my eye or that I liked, but nothing I absolutely *need*. That's good for my wallet for now, but I'm sure Angie's list will change my mind!

Of course it's not a bad thing to NOT want anything at sale time! I am never swayed by sales - accept at NAS time

As I mentioned in the last few days on the forum - what you see in the NAS catalogue is just a fraction of what is offered online and in stores. I have a hunch that you will all come away with a treasure, perhaps even two.

Una, I commented on the NAS scan thread, saying that I thought it meant you were reaching a point where your closet is fab and you don't need to add to it at the same rate anymore.

At the time, I made an offhand observation about how "nirvana" = "freedom from desires", but after having thought about it overnight, I think the offhand comment should have been more core point: it's fantastic that you've trained your eye to look at beautiful things and say "but I don't need these beautiful things, because I already have other beautiful things that share the following characteristics ..." Basically, you're developing a more discriminating eye and more nuanced way of putting together your outfits. And how could that be anything but fab?

I just cracked open my catalog and found a few things - the Weitzman flats, houndstooth blouse, some Vince Camuto. But I was unhappy to see it is all ankle length trousers again this season. So tired of that!
It's OK if you don't shop the NAS lol.
