Is this dress ok for a summer wedding

I'm checking out this dress for a summer wedding. Most of the guests will be wearing something short, tight and black. I was really hoping to wear color but I don't want to be too far outside of the environmental norm.

I can't figure out the sizing. According to the size chart I am an 8/10. Normally I am wearing 2/4. Does anyone know about Tibi sizing? Does it run extremely small? Any idea how it might look on a petite apple shape?

I'm not sure but I see I am a S on their modern apparel chart, but a M on the designer chart as well. Could you do a live chat with someone and ask about measurements?

I think Tibi does run small. Where are you a 2/4? I'm a 2/4 at J Crew and Gap (but a 4-6 at places like Banana Republic and Anthropologie) and I would definitely try a 6 or an 8 in Tibi. I wouldn't be surprised to need a 10 either.

OMG!!! I have that dress, and just love it! I did however have to go up one size from my usual. My only complaint was working the closure for the built in bra. Fumbly Fingers. I've worn it with faded jeans, and black ones, and everyone always has nice things to say about it. It says dry clean only, but I hand wash it in icy cold water, and mild soap. So far, so good.

That is a lovely dress and I think you will stand out whilst not looking out of place in a sea of black. I think that it is a great length without being immodest. What shoes and jewellery will you wear with it?

Otherwise, you might be able to have them send 2 w/ a return label gratis. They will charge for both but immediately credit back when you return one. Some companies are better about this than others. It's a great looking dress and I think you will be lovely in it provided the fit is good. I have heard that party dress sizing is different than daydress/sportswear sizing so I would forget numbers and look for key places you want an exact fit on your body! Can't wait to see it on you! L

@Julie, do you have the long sleeve or short sleeve version?

@Londonkiwi, I'll probably be asking for YLF shoe and jewelry suggestions. My inclination is to keep it simple with a dress like this.

Beautiful dress! Looks like the bust is where it must fit most precisely, I'd go with measurements for that. The waist and hips looks looser.

@julie - duh! I should have said strapless or LS! I like that one too but the wedding is in summer and I don't think it would work!

I have the strapless style. But, I've never worn it to anything approaching a wedding. As I said, I wear it with faded jeans, and black jeans, I would imagine you could also after its use at the wedding. I did try on the LS but chose the strapless because of the "cute" factor.

Gorgeous dress! I think Tibi runs small - I have gotten to the point where size has no relevance - I'm anywhere from a 2 to a 10 depending on brand somehow!

Sounds like you've gotten good feedback. I'm a 4 pretty much across the board but always size up to a 6 in Tibi.

I went to my local Bloomingdale's to look for this dress and another I saw on their website. I hadn't been there in many years and I think the last time was to buy a toaster at their home sale. They didn't have this dress or the other one in stock. All they seemed to have was wide swaths of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Jones NY. It was all rather low key and not at all edgy. I guess I have to go to the NYC bloomingdale's for that.

As much as I loved the Tibi dress online, I started having second thoughts about it in the store. The rest of the wedding party and guests are going to be wearing head to toe black designer duds. Russian weddings are all about extravagant exuberant excess. I have spent my life dressed inappropriately at these family events that I never felt like I fit into completely. I'm starting to get worried that if I show up in this, it may be mistaken for a beach sarong amongst all of the glamorous gowns. I want to dress like me but I also don't want to stick out. Sadly I think this dress is being shelved.

Aw, sorry you decided against the dress, but I guess it's better to realize you'd be uncomfortable now, rather than at the event. :T I hope your find something absolutely perfect!
