Is this blouse too much? U/D - Went for it!

So I've liked this blouse for a while, it's on the very expensive side, but I have only about 5-6 items I would like to purchase in the next 8 months I'd say, so this could be one anyway. I really like the colors, but is the pattern a little too much to the eye? I tend to dress rather simply, so I could see me wearing this with black pants, jeans, or even shorts...but I don't want to overload everyone's senses!

Also, sorry I've barely commented the past few weeks....a LOT of travelling and family visiting coupled with 2 weeks of intense flu in the house made for very little "me" time.

***U/D - I went for it! EEEK! I think this is by far the most expensive top I will ever own! I am in Love with the color/pattern though! Can't wait to see it in person!

I love it, Raisin. I think if you're aiming for a minimal style, the striking print and super quality will be right on. And no, it doesn't look like too much at all! Somehow the cool colours and abstract splotches make it soothing, not hectic, to look at.

I think that the print is really pretty and the colours would be great on you. In my opinion it isn't over the top, and would look effortlessly stylish with basic bottoms.

It depends... This would be perfect for my style, but I like bright colors and patterns. I personally would wear this with slim black pants or a pencil skirt in a heartbeat.

Maybe a slightly smaller pattern would work better, if at all available?

I like it a lot and think the colours could look great on you. I also don't think it is inherently too much, especially with your minimal style. The only risk is that the scale of the pattern might overwhelm your delicate frame and features. If you could try in on in person you'd have a better idea.

I think it is gorgeous and because of the limited color palette and "gentle" pattern it has more of a harmonious vibe than a maximal vibe to me. I would go for it.

I just wonder about fit. It looks too big on the model, and if they can't make it fit on HER (especially on her!) will it fit you properly? If you can try it before you buy that would make the most sense.

I like it a lot. Nice colors, great pattern, simple shape. I love a graphic floral, and that one would look great with white, black, denim... possibly even ink blue, plum, or burgundy. That type of neckline is often flattering too. If I weren't already set for blouses I'd be tempted to try it myself!

I think it's perfect for a minimal style in that it can stand on its own with no embellishment needed. The colors are strong yet the shape is simple. It would like great over sim black pants. I love it!

I think the way the print flows and the colours harmonize, as well as the relative simplicity of the cut (straight sides, no collar, no trims and tucks) should help it integrate very well into a minimal closet for just a subtle hint of drama. Scale of pattern is indeed the only question mark --- but even so, the flow of the pattern should help. Try it on!

It is beautiful. I think if you wear it with very simple pieces it will still read as a quite minimal.

I think it could work very nicely too....hmm only thing is I cannot try it on. I'm no where near anywhere that would have it. I didn't really think about the pattern size, I don't think it would be toooo large, but then again, trying it on would be nice. I should go see if I have any patterns of similar size. I'm keeping some money aside to get these odds and ends I want, so if next paycheck my size is still there, then I think I might just go for it!

I really like the tunic top. I think it's almost a statement piece. You could also wear it tucked in to high-waisted trousers.

Have you tried contacting the retailer to see if they can tell you something about the fit? If it's sold in an actual brick and mortar store, you may find someone who has actually seen the blouse in person, and has observed how it looks on people who try it on. It's worth a shot.

If that's the case, and it's either within your style or within the direction you want to go, pull the trigger. I think it's important to listen to our hearts; just ensure that it's got a place in your closet and wallet too!

T-Rex - I do know the fit is big, one site said to order down if between sizes. According to the chart I come in at a size 0 anyway, so that's what I would order. I generally go for oversized anyway. I am trying to look around online to find it on different sites to see if I can get more ideas of how it looks. I found in on only 2 gals so far.

Charmian, I think you are right, I should just go with my gut a bit too. Not every purchase needs a week and half of thought...but I do try to think out my expensive purchases a bit more, especially those on-line that I can't see. As I've mentioned I am terrible at figuring my own size out! It is returnable though...but I think I would lose the shipping and customs.

Why would it be too much? I like it. I have a tunic of similar colours/pattern, I am thinking of getting rid of it because mine is made of a terrible fabric (too cheap!) and it shows.

The cut is simple so I think it would work. Could you try on a shirt with a similar sized print to see how it feels? Also consider how fast you tire of a print if you are spending more than usual. I tend to tire of florals and geometrics but not stripes or polka dots. Each of us probably has our favorites.

I've been contemplating the pants version of this top, it is such a gorgeous print. It is on my list of things I need to try on when I visit the US in two weeks. I say definitely size down Phillip Lim always runs large for me.

There is a top that reminds me of this one but is a bit more subtle is you want to check it out as well. My friend bought it so I've crossed it off my own list. It is by ALC, and is even more stunning in person.

TinaB that one you linked is fab too! A bit more actually, then the Phillip Lim. I have seen the pants too, I bet they would look great if you are daring enough to wear them. The colors are so soothing and mellow to me.

really pretty!!!!!!!!!! i actually felt in love to a similar pattern but in a blazer the bad thing was only one left and didn't fit i think u should really buy it looks expensive !!

I have a weird obsession with patterned pants, hoping they will work. I'm also going to see if the PL pants work in the plain navy. May have to decide between the two if the shape works on me.

This blouse and the ALC one would very much suit your style from what I've seen you post. I love blouses with a rounded neck like this.

Just adding that I actually bought it today! I so love the color and pattern....so expensive though, I didn't know if I would go for it, but I saved the $$$ and it's one of a few things for the year.....eeek!
