Is This a Nice Outfit? (not purchased yet...)

I'm trying really hard to find a cute, dressy-casual outfit online and have been searching for a few weeks now for just the right look. My search is for a midi skirt and structured jacket.

I found these items and am wondering if they are a good choice. I am petite (5'3") and in my mid-40s.

They are both very pretty pieces. I would say both are quite fashion-forward, but somehow together they could end up being too conservative. It's not my profession though to say

Thank you for your reply, Scarlet. I was looking for a monochromatic look because I read that was a good look for petites.

Yes, I think they could come across as fairly conservative when worn together. I think it's partly the style, partly the color. Do you wanted to get the jacket in camel?

I'm terrible at picturing pieces together so I'm no help there. I really love that skirt though. I wonder if it would end up too long since you're 5'3". Do you hem things?

Jenny, It depends. Sometimes I leave them as is and other times make adjustments.

I agree with Scarlet. They are both great pieces but together they will look more classic/Ralph Lauren then edgy or fashion forward. Is that what you're looking for?

I actually don't know what I want. I want something that looks nice together but other than that, my skills at finding a midi skirt and a structured jacket that work together are lacking.

I'm open to suggestions..........

What about the jacket you thought about and a different midi skirt? Asos had a few with nice colors that would break the classical vibe up. Or order the skirt and another jacket. Does it have to be a classical blazer?

Thanks Astrid. I have no set plan on this outfit. What color skirt do you think would go with the jacket? Classical blazer? I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. At this point, a blazer is a blazer to me. I have never had a blazer and I am trying to find something that it YLF worthy.

I'm not quit sure what color I would wear with it. I thought maybe a warm red, but I think you said you didn't like red?

Mmh, a blazer is blazer to me too! I didn't mean it as a real style characteristic, more like the feeling I got when I looked at it. The tweed look is somewhat classic I think.

Where exactly are you? I'm in Europe so I can't use many of the online shops often mentioned here.

Thanks Astrid. I do like red.... that must have been someone else. And, yes, I do like that color very much. I saw that one but wasn't sure if it would make me too "hippy" with the pleats. I get it.... classic tweed. Yes, that blazer would be considered a classic.

I'm in the US. Thank you for your help. I think I will need to sleep on this. It's tougher trying to look nice than I thought it would be.

Thanks, Carol. I did end up ordering both items. We'll see what I come up with. Maybe I can get them to work together and maybe not. Nothing like a good challenge.

The jacket will look great with the right pair of jeans.

The skirt will look great with a cropped denim jacket and boots.

So even if together they look too Ralph Lauren, if you love them and they fit well, you will have something to wear!

Actually I think they may work together. The blazer is pretty short and fitted so proportions should be fine. It will have kind of equestrian feel to it. I can see them together with stacked heel booties and a scarf...
Oh and about being similar colors: in the fall issue of InStyle they recommend to wear a midi skirt with tonal consistency..

Like Sveta, I think they will work together - a sort of ladylike equestrian-inspired outfit, if you wear boots as well.

Post some pictures when they arrive, I'd love to see them together!
