As I was contemplating "style epiphanies," it suddenly occurred to me that there was one person who had greatest impact on how I want to dress. She's gone now. So I don't know how she would dress today, but her style was in many ways timeless. She always wore suits professionally: moss, black, cream with a simple shell underneath. Long jackets with short skirts or pants. No pattern, minimal jewelry, fine but understated leather goods. You might think that this looked stuffy or boring but it didn't. First, she was probably one of the most beautiful but artless womean I've ever known IRL - a slender rectangle with the perfect figure to display this style of clothing. She had gorgeous long blonde hair which she wore straight and smooth or in tousled beachy waves. She always wore interesting shoes - kitten heels or gorgeous boots or booties and her clothes always fit beautifully. Her clothes were modest but the short skirts and long hair were always feminine and made a great counterpoint to her understated attire. She embodied the elegance of simplicity. The power of understatement. The impact of modest and appropriate when combined with a touch of the unexpected. It's more than 10 years since she's been gone, but when I don't know how to dress for an event, I always try and imagine what she might have worn. Is there one person who most influenced your personal style?
