Is there a clear winner?

Hi Fabbers! The black boots came and I can't decide which is better. Do you see something that I don't? Can I borrow your collective wisdom again?

I'm going to break from the crowd here and say I prefer the black. It may be an optical illusion, but they appear to be slimmer fitting and slightly taller, both of which make them look more flattering to my eye.

I like the black best. They are so sleek with the dark pants, and they give a very long, tall look. It really depends on what you want to wear with them, but with this particular outfit, the black is a standout for me.

I like the brown boots a lot, but looking at the photos, overall I like the black better on you. I think it's your dark hair that makes the look so well balanced. But then, as others have asked, do you already have black boots? As much as I prefer the brown overall, the black look so great on you!

In answer to your question: no, I don't see a clear winner. Love them both.

Thanks, Fabbers! It looks like I can’t go wrong with either. I hope to carve out some time this weekend to see which ones are easier to style with my wardrobe. I tend towards low contrast when it comes to footwear. My thinking was that brown would kind of tie in with cream bottoms (maybe white too,) various denim shades and black--whereas I would likely only wear the black boots with dark wash and black.

@shedev: I *think* I’d wear the black more often because they are easy for me to style whereas I’d have to think more about how to wear the brown.

@marble: Thanks! Good question! I love the brown--but feel like black is more practical.
@BC: Thank you. The brown is more distressed and feels more broken in. I think that might make them more slouchy in the long run. Not sure how I feel about that.
@Aida: I *knew* you would choose the lighter pair Afterall, you are the brunette who rocks light foot wear!
@Una: lol--I know! You have the best boot collection. The only non-black tall boot I have are the burnished slate Veronicas. I used to reach for them all the time but I don’t think I’ve worn them more that a couple of times this winter. I ended up returning the ombre (good memory)--I liked them but felt they were going to be too difficult to style.
@rachylou: Lol. I like urban I like country chic too!
@echo, Sharan and Susan: I think I see what you see when I try to look critically. The black do look more streamlined. I just am not sure if they look OTT in black as opposed to the more casual brown.

I didn't see this. Depends what you want to wear it with. I think brown looks good with jeans and casual whIle black can be more dressed up.

I think I prefer the brown as they look lighter and have a slightly more considered look about them. Sometimes with black boots I think they can look like a compromise, in that the colour is so much easier to match. Both are lovely though!

Both look good, I think you'll find the brown work better for you even though the Black bookend your hair. Also a good brown boot is harder to find than black.

Even with the heel the style is mostly casual so the brown seems more consistent and more likely to be worn often and easily. Plus they look cute.
The black looks a little less feminine , and the casual look starts to shift into a stomp-y vixen area. Which is fine of course! But even more of a statement, especially added to the over the knee impact so they might not be as comfortable in as many situations.

Thanks, Isabel. I think you touched on my hesitation with the black. Stompy vixen territory is not somewhere I want to go although I'm not sure that I could even get there if I tried! They are a lot of boot though. Definitely something to consider!

Well now that I read you're interested in also wearing with light jeans in doubly vote for the brown! Especially since you skew low contrast. Let us know how the try-on goes this weekend and what you decide ^^

I like them both. I used to always default to black but I think the brown ones might be the most versatile.

Both look good I agree. BUT living in a cold climate as well, here is what I say: get the lighter color pair. They look TERRIFIC on you, and they create a nice contrast with the rest, which is going to add tons of oomph to your winter outfits. It's going to make everything more interesting, even the most gear-like sporty puff coat will look different. The black one are also nice but not as much of an oh-la-la effect. Get the non-black ones. Really.
