Is my style that difficult?

The last few times I've asked for ideas for outfits I haven't gotten a lot of responses. Is it because my style is too out there? I'm not looking for a head to toe outfit of an idea, even just a nugget of a suggestion can get the wheels spinning. I'm just curious.

Anna, I have a hard time giving you ideas because my style is so very different from yours. I always hesitate because you are most definately on the leading edge of fashion, where I am much happier in the classics section! I can see if something looks good on you or has the right fit, but I always fear giving advice as what I would wear would not be what you would wear. Angie and others are sooo good at spanning the style range, but I am not. Yet.

I do feel that my style is so basic compared to yours, that anything I would suggest would be eye roll inducing.

I must emphasize that I always look forward to seeing your WIW's because you have great style.

TBH with these type of questions (WTW) I am often at a loss because the context is different in the UK, is a dive bar a local boozer? Oh yes...and I would have you wearing Ms Marant .every.single.day.

Well, I haven't been around long enough to really have a sense of what is in your closet. I do worry that you will think suggestions I make are boring, so I hesitate to offer my opinion as I don't think you'll get much from it. I'll try to contribute more in future though!

I have a hard time with these types of questions no matter who asks them. I have a hard time remembering what anyone has in their closet, and I'm worried that my style isn't the same as the poster and therefore that my answer will seem stupid.

Like Ceit, I also worry that you'll think my suggestion is boring since my style is so much more classic than yours (and like I said, I can't remember exactly what pieces you have).

I will try to be more helpful in the future with general suggestions and not worry so much about specific pieces.

I assumed you were looking for specifics--I didn't think to answer with "sassy sweatshirt/skirt/booties; jeans/wedge sneaks, dress, etc." I'm also much better with visuals. I terrible at putting together outfits in my head.

ETA: I don't think you style is difficult at all. I love everything you wear.

Anna, I love your style, and I will try to be more specific in the future. I have hesitated in the past because I feel like a first grader giving advice to a professor with multiple PhDs!

Like Rachylou, I never remember what anyone has in their closet. My style is sooo far from yours, but that wouldn't prevent me from making suggestions if I could remember anything you own. I would never dismiss someone's opinion because their style differed from mine...I assume that, like Angie, they are making suggestions based on MY likes/dislikes. I don't think you do that either (dismiss opinions if they come from non-edgy Fabbers).

Anyway, long response to say I'm better at responding to actual visuals.

Anna, you crack me up. It isn't that your style is so difficult, it is that you are lapping most of us in the style race. You are very fashion-forward and very informed. You also have an incredible range in your style, not falling consistently into one style persona or even two. Add to that the fact that you have a huge wardrobe, from what I can tell, and we're stumped! I will pop in occasionally to suggest a practical consideration (don't wear your suede shorts around a bunch of drunk guys), but beyond that, I feel like such a novice around you that I have a hard time thinking of any outfit suggestions!

My style is conservative and kind of prissy. I'm also struggling with getting out of low end shopping, partly due to poor selection of shops in my locale, and partly due to being a bit of a penny pincher...so I don't feel very qualified to provide fashion advice-- to anyone!

That said, I think your style is quite unconventional. I would call you the Anna Dello Russo of YLF.

MY fashion advice would be to Google or Pinterest images of ADR and see if you couldn't copy cat some of her outfits from what you've got, and use that as a jumping off point.

You really are an original though!

So many different people post here and I confess I can't remember what people have in their closets, so any suggestions I might make would be so vague as to render them useless. If you wanted to mock up a few choices, even outfits laid out on the bed, you'd probably get more responses.

I am a bit of a plain Jane and wear very simple outfits whereas you are very fashion forward. I feel that offering you fashion suggestions would be like serving roast beef to a gourmet.

I like your style but it takes more fashion imagination than I can muster.

I don't find your style difficult, I find it inspiring. I just am better able to give feedback when pictures of options are included. I'm very visual.

Personally speaking, many times I can't provide suggestions because I can't remember what items you have in your closet. I have a terrible memory for things like that and am always amazed when someone on the forum remembers individual items someone has.

I haven't read the other replies yet but I would find it easier if you posted some photos of you in the possible outfits.

I don't find your style difficult. I did think you would be more inclined to do your own thing (sorry I shouldn't make assumptions).

K can shop summed it up for me. I feel like you are miles ahead of me as far as fashion and trends go, that my giving advice would be like the first year student giving advice to the PhD! I also feel like I am far more conservative and that any advice I gave would be so far out of your style zone as to be ridiculous. I am learning from YOU; I don't yet feel like I have much to offer in return.

I too, am horrible at remembering what others have in their closet, so that's why I can never come up with a outfit suggestion for anyone.

Anna, I think people have trouble giving advice without seeing pictures. I recently posted a thread asking for advice WTW for things like a birthday party, concert etc. I didn't get that many responses, compared to a K/R where I'm asking for a yes or no. I like these kinds of challenges, it's like you're being asked to be a stylist, but they're not simple and it's easy to feel intimidated by someone who's really trend-saavy.

It'd probably be helpful to include a few links to past outfits as a starting point. Without pics, I draw a blank with that kind of question, whereas when I see a photo, I'm also reminded of the poster's other looks - the visual cue helps.
That said, I probably won't be giving advice to you anytime soon, for the reasons already mentioned.

Anna, your style is young, cool and edgy...everything that mine is not. As a (AARP and Medicare) card carrying senior citizen, I've not felt qualified to give you fashion advice, so leave it to others. You are a beautiful, intelligent and caring young woman. I think we all care about you very much.

Wow thanks for the great feedback. It didn't even dawn on me about remembering items in my closet. I guess I meant to say I was looking for general advice and or suggestions. In the future I will either try to post pictures or have more specific examples.
