You know although the elastic waist is sort of the nail in the coffin, I could imagine wearing these if they were either longer or shorter. They look better in the last picture where they seem to taper more.

You know, the way they are styled I don't hate them but I am not sure they would be flattering on a non model. Permission granted to dislike them.

Of course you can dislike them! So many reason to, really. Honestly, I second Deborah. They look okay on the model, but anyone without model proportions would probably look very frumpy.

I suppose someone may describe them as 'fresh' but personally I think they are awful.
But at least I now I have an idea for my mother in law's birthday gift

These are the kind of thing that (rightfully) gets people nominated for What Not to Wear, except usually because they've been in the person's wardrobe for 15 years and are worn with shapeless tee shirts.

This is what concerns me about the oversized, loose trend. It's a slippery slope, I fear.

I have a poison eye for those kind of pockets right off the bat. Add the elastic waist and that light wash and blech!

Funny you should mention it. My mom is trying to get me to buy elastic waist jeans since I am complaining mine aren't fitting anymore since I came to visit for a couple of weeks. I think BJ is right.

Ha! I think I OWN at least 4 pairs of similar crops in linen in different colors. Pants like these are the only way to survive 95+ summer heat.

I could see Jane from Sea of Shoes wearing these pants with one of her pairs of $1,500 Ann Demeulemeester lace-up sandals, a designer lacy boho top or vintage Chanel jacket and working it!

Or my 78 year old Mom, with her sensible, bunion friendly Clarks sandals and and a Denim & Co tee-shirt.

Is it the "wayfarer crops"? If so, I think Janet is spot on, as they say here.

To me they look like the "comfort" jeans that have been featured in plus-size catalogs since the 70s. You have to be very cool, and probably have thin thighs, to look good in that kind of silhouette.

Hello, poison eye! (The length, the pockets, the elastic waist...) And I agree that this type of pant is a thousand times worse in denim than in linen.

Actually, I have made a decision to remove all of my poison eyes. I am embracing an "open mind" lol. In all seriousness, I keep on putting my foot in my mouth. Remember the BF jean mouthful I gave you?

It is all in the styling, I have concluded.

If they were longer or shorter, and with a structured waistband - they would probably be hanging in my closet. I love knickerbocker silhouettes.

Anthropologie has a way of styling that boho look that always looks fabulous in the images and catalogs. Then I buy it and it end up a complete disaster on me. Hello bright pink, snail print blouse that looks like a maternity shirt (that I kept). Among many other fails... I digress.

These would look like Mom jeans on 95% of the population. The other 5% would look fab though.

Ornella, I tried to snag the photo to post here, but it's html format so I wasn't able.

Actually, these pants aren't denim, they are primarily tencel which is very soft and fluid. Nothing like jeans. That makes me think these pants really have some potential for being styled well.

Wow, the street style photo is eye-opening.

I'll have to borrow my mom's pair - I'm pretty sure she buys something similar at a much lower price at my local grocery store. That's what's confusing me - this is something I see all the time at Walmart. If they were made of silk (like some of the silk sweatpants I've seen), okay. But they are just elastic waist denim pants.

I think in linen, in a better length, these could transform to fab quite easily. But as is, I feel it's a case of the emperor's new clothes.
