...is anyone else just about over clunky platform wedges? Im talking platforms that are thicker than maybe an inch or an inch and a half. I find I'm not attracted to them much these days, and the few that I have are not appealing to me. Yet there are still plenty in the stores, particularly sandals.

I never was in love with them in the first place, at least for myself. I don't mind a small more refined platform on the right foot and leg.

I'm with you Janet. I used to love a chunky shoe but not anymore (other than Docs of course).

I'm with you, Janet. Living in the Midwest, they're still quite prevalent, but I'm gravitating toward more refined footwear in general. I did buy the pair below this summer, for their sheer retro funkiness.

Not looking forward to skinny heels, again, though! They look gorgeous, but I find them very unstable and short lived, particularly with my heavy heelstrike.

Janet, I have never been a big fan of platforms. I don't mind seeing them on others, but I find them ( in my mind ) to be associated with a very particular look and just don't find them at all versatile. I just don't see them where I live. So I was surprised, not just by your post, but the fact that they are in for Fall.

I agree, Janet. They were taken to an illogical extreme (like most trends before they die), and now they are mostly over - at least in my mind. That doesn't mean that some people don't still wear them well, but they don't appeal to me much. A more moderate heel without a platform on the front is far more feminine and appealing to my eye.

Flatforms have always been an edgy look. I don't see them ever gaining the popularity that platformed heels or wedges did. And I still do like chunky footwear - particularly boots - but for heels/pumps, I prefer a more refined shoe.

At the beginning of Summer I passed on my two pairs of platform sandals and purchased in their place a "refined wedge" sandal-- the wedge is narrow and there is only a leather sole under the ball of the foot. They are quite comfy.

I still like chunky platforms and flatforms. I like the height they give my short self without the pain!

Well, obviously it's not just you. But I still love them. Do they make my proportions resemble those of a Bratz doll, with giant feet and spindly little legs? Yep. They sure do. And that look is fun for me sometimes.

I like being tall enough to look my SO in the eye, and reach the top shelf at the store. I like that I can walk for hours in them, even on the grass, and still wear a 4 inch heel. I LOVE that I can wear my hemmed trousers to work and give my poor feet a break from stilettos without dragging my hems. Would I wear that look all the time? Nope. But it sure has it's uses.

I still love my Lucky Abeos but have not worn them this yet this summer. Mostly because my time is being spent in much more active pursuits that make flats the premier choice. Actually, I am wearing heels in general much less lately. Could be all the walking at work makes me want to give my feet a break.

I never loved chunky platforms, I have two flatforms sandals but this year, I didn't wore them much, I'm a bit tired of platforms also!

I'm a fan of wedge heels but not chunky platforms just because I don't like being unable to feel the clutch when I drive a car.

I'm still ok with them (and flatforms). They need to be worn with the right outfit, but I love the Areosoles I bought earlier this summer and can't wait to keep wearing them.

I have some chunky platform wedges from some years back, and I notice that they no longer appeal to me. However, chunky soles definitely do appeal to me, and were I a big spender I would buy a pair of Stella McCartney's super-chunky deeply-lugged-sole shoes (AW2013-14). I will be sad when flatforms and chunky-soled shoes no longer look cool, because shoes with thin soles are so hard on my feet (even if they are flat).

I got rid of my high platforms and just have a couple pairs of sandals with small platforms now. I still like them on others, just not for me. I wore them enough to get bored and am looking at the more refined styles for a change.

Ack, I bought those Lucky Brand wedges 'cause they looked so cool the way you'd styled them. My first wedges since middle school! Now you're jaded with them? I still like them and think they have a very particular outfit vibe. I'd wear them more if my feet could handle them for longer distances. But yeah, I probably am good for wedges with this pair.

I was never into chunky, clunky wedges (the "monster wedge" trend passed me right by as I watched with a lot of bemused head-scratching), but I have noticed that I'm reaching for more refined shoes in general.

I think chunkier soles, especially those with a platform under the toe, tend to look better with wider pant leg openings, and skirts or pants with narrow leg openings look better with more delicate shoes. Since I'm rarely wearing wider pants these days -- I just took in my favourite pair of flares and had them tapered into straight legs, for example -- I'm not needing chunky-soled shoes so much. I bet that's a big part of the reason.

Also, it's hard not to sound like a herd of elephants when you're walking around in thick platform soles.

Mochi, actually I still like the Luckys! There is something about them that doesn't feel so clunky to me -- maybe it's the light color. But I have passed on some other sandals that were higher in height and less versatile than the Luckys -- somehow they almost felt too young for me now. My nieces were the recipients.

I'm not feeling wedges right now. Re. big chunky platforms - they've always been kinda moot for me, because I have nowhere to go in them. But I am still feeling platforms. The retro '80s pointy pump is, at this point for me, definitely retro. A little costumey even.

Having said that, y'all know I got a pair of thin soled pointy black patent pumps a few months ago, right? Hehe.

Yes, sadly, because I still love my Tommy Hilfiger tie dye wedges and they are sooooo comfortable. But when I wear them, I feel they are out of fashion. So I would not buy any more. Luckily, actually, these are my only pair of platform chunky wedges.

I am still in love with the refined wedges though. I really hope wedges don't disappear altogether! I would love a black wedge boot for winter

I completely understand what you mean. I have rather large feet, size 10, to be exact and I'm only 5'2" so if I wear anything too chunky, my feet tend to take on a Sasquatch effect. Having said that, I love wedges but more refined.
