Is it a fashion crime?

I have bought Gap pique academy blazer in yellow recently nad now I am faced with the dilemma.
Based on the color (bright citron) and weight (cotton) this blazer is ideal for summer wearing when I need a topper. However there is a problem - the lining. It is polyester and pretty hot: I feel hot in it even now and cannot imagine wearing it in the summer.
So here is my question: is it a fashion crime to remove the lining from this blazer and make it into unlined blazer? I know there is also an option to replace the poly lining with something more breathable but it is a lot of work and expense and also I am sure a blazer without any lining would feel less hot in summer.
What do you think?

I see no problem as long as removing the lining doesn't negatively impact the drape of the fabric.

I look for unlined blazers for summer. It will probably behave a little differently but should still be another kind of good.

The seams may not be "finished" in the way an unlined jacket seams would be - maybe undo a small section of the seam to check first.

Your mother will be able to tell you -- and she would probably be able to bind the seams inside if necessary, too!

In principle this should work, and I do have unlined blazers that are great. However, I'd be careful to check that the underside of the shell is not scratchy or snaggy; you wouldn't want it to catch on your blouse or be itchy. Also, as the others have mentioned, you may need to finish the seams so they're not shreddy or anything.

Caro, you are right, the seams may be unfinished.

Are both body and sleeves lined? I have a DKNY knit blazer and only the sleeves are lined. I suppose it helps the slip factor when wearing long sleeves underneath as well as keeping the elbows from bagging out.

I second Day Vies. The others make really good points, but if you won't wear it as it is, remake it so you will wear it!

I've had cotton blazers which were partially lined, not in the sleeves but in the body about a third of the way down. I always thought that was done so that the shoulder area had the support of the lining. I've also seen this in men's cotton blazers. Your mum will know for sure.

Sveta, late to the party, but definitely get your mum to take a look. It's funny you should post this as I have just removed the lining from a skirt that I love but haven't been wearing (the lining seemed to be at least one size smaller than the skirt) and I am about to do the same to a dress (for the reasons you state with the jacket) and with my faux leather skirt (because the lining is cheap poly and is 'noisey'!). No fashion crime here! Good luck.
