I say trying again, to mean re- discovering black after having moved away from it or thinking you can’t wear it anymore. In particular in tops or dresses/ coordinates because, not being most flattering face color in the big picture.
I’ve been doing, or trying , a bit of a move back ( or backwards). I think I know the reasons in my case, but wonder if anyone else had some insights or experiences.
I had stopped ed adding black in Roscoe jackets ( except somewhat paradoxically, summer T’s & some jackets— these because there is more skin showing , and mixing with light neutrals. ) My hair is lighter now with some gray, my coloring has less contrast. So medicine’s, including medium gray though, look better.
But have also found that I feel I look more I dunno, sophisticated or put- together with matching top & bottom colors , or very tonal, or not being cut in the middle with tips & bottoms. Plus actual dresses are hard to fit on me, whereas separates work. So I’d say it’s partly the dearth of really beautiful coordinates in pewter, or plum, or such. Whereas black is more available in different styles & fits.
So what I was finding was that I was doing a lot of choosing for best or better face colors, but not liking the combinations I could make.
I tiptoed into some black separates (having still kept wearing black pants as staples), and found I like the way I could choose the neckline, the drape, fabric or other aspects more intentionally, plus the way a black top and bottom piece combined, the silhouette, and that gave me some outfits that were closer to how I “ see” myself, despite the black.
Notes are, I have some eyeglasses with dark rims, and clearly a bit of lipstick helps, plus I can add scarf or jewelry.
Sidebar: I’d like to try one of the long- wearing lipsticks if I thought I could find the right MLBB color , plus most are advertised as matte— not sure that is flattering.
I’m not converting to an all- black wardrobe, and I’m still on the lookout
for the HEWI colors/ coordinating or matching pieces. I’ll include that, navy is not a better color, nor is very dark brown, but they’d be under consideration for the actual styles they might come in.
But wondering if I’ve been too black- avoiding and lost my style somewhere along the way?
