That was really my first go at it, although I have had bursts of time in which I tried to set my hair on rollers at night and such.
This was actually very easy because it only involved doing two pin curls at the front. First, I made a zig-zag part on one side. Then I wet two smallish sections of hair in the front and put heavy-duty styling mousse on them. The mousse is optional - I really wanted to make sure I had a pretty stiff curl.
I rolled them into standing pin curls to get extra volume and then went to sleep! In the morning I brushed out the curls and formed it into one big roll, which was really easy because it *wants* to form that way. I secured the roll with a bobby pin.
Then I took the side portions and just twisted them back a bit and put a decorative bobby pin in.
Really very easy! I watched loads of pin curl tutorials on YouTube. Just type "pin curls" into the search. I especially liked StrawberryKoi's tutorial.
If you want to practice this look without being obligated to wear it to work, do the pin curl part as soon as you get home from work. Use a blow dryer to get it pretty dry and then just let it sit while you do your usual evening stuff. Once it's good and dry (got to be dry!), take it out and start playing with the curl and practicing the roll.
If you hate it and it proves too frustrating, just wet it down. If you like it, it's easy to re-roll it into the pin curl again before you go to bed. Then in the morning it will spring right back into the roll.
Let us know if you try it! If it proves too off-topic for YLF, post a comment on my blog and make sure to take a pic!
