Is anyone else crushing on the Kate Spade book clutches?

Okay, I admit it, I am a huge Jane Austen fan. I have read P&P, S&S, Persuasion and Emma more times than I can count but if I had to marry a JA hero, it would definitey be Mr. Knightley. I missed these when they were available but I did find one on ebay and broke down and ordered it. Is this absolutely contrived or totally divine? I have to admit I am not sure if I can control myself if she comes out with "Jane Eyre."

I love Jane Austen but tend to get grumpy about these sort of things I see this as just another marketing exercise. Feel free to ignore me because I won't buy the movie/tv show edition of a book either.

I have trouble with "books" as containers ( or animals, for that matter, except for children's purses).
Would prefer retro referenced to something evolved from that period rather than a book cover.
I understand crushing on Jane Austen, though!

Caro you are wise. I on the other hand have worn out my P&P DVD (only Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle will do), the definitive Emma is much to my surprise Gwyneth Paltrow - Jeremy Northam was amazingly fabulous as Mr. Knightley. I don't think I ever met a classic novel that I have not wanted to see brought to the screen/theater/ etc. (yes, sometimes it's disappointing but sometimes you get a North and South of which Elizabeth Gaskell might actually approve). I guess I am just hopeless. I admire your restraint!

I agree on the Jane Austen front, I've read all her novels (not like there are that many, but still...). I do like the clutches and some of Kate Spade's more whimsical pieces. I have the "I Married Adventure" clutch on a wish list if I can ever find it on sale - my husband is indeed a handful! Ha!

Emily - so glad you like too!! Just one of those need it, want it, gotta have it things. Like one of those huge desserts. You know they are bad for you but gosh they go down easy!! It's nice someone else is sipping the tea and nibbling the cucumber sandwiches on this one!!

I think her prices are usually outrageous but I love her quirk, especially her bookish quirk. Like the new library line? I am all for books as containers

Gryffin, you are channeling me today. I love them. Haven't bought one, but love it. And ditto on Jane. I just finished this year's rereading of it this morning (and late to work because of it). And JFF (bouncing back and forth a bit today), tonight I think I'm watching Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds.

I have seen some really adorable book clutches on Etsy, handmade and better prices than Kate!

@Gryffin: I found these instructions for using balsa wood to make the interior box. I plan to line the inside with fabric, and embroider a cover from the recipient's favorite book. Luckily I have until February!
