Is AA too cheap to bother with?

I was looking into a light summer striped dress. I love the style but know American Apparel can be shoddy/cheap. Should I give it a gamble or not even bother? http://store.americanapparel.net/2386st.html
This would be mostly casual hot day wear. I might throw on a low slung belt and flat sandals. I'd wear it low on the shoulder - somewhere between these 2 pictures.

I am not sure about the quality, but I have read a lot of obnoxious things about the owner and the company, if that matters.

Like Shevia, I've also read a lot of disturbing things about the owner of AA, so I refuse to shop there on principle. Plus I get an instant headache when I step into one of their stores (something about the combo of the super bright lights and the bright colors). In terms of quality, I do think their tees tends to be really thin and flimsy but that's kind of the trend right now in general. They fit very small.

Hmmm, I don't know anything about the company itself. Never seen a store front (of course I don't live near any stores lol). I was mostly thinking about quality . . . maybe I should keep looking for a similar striped tee shirt dress.

I also boycott AA based on their ads and their owner. The ads are often super sexual and use very young girls (think a 15 year old looking girl spreading her legs on a glass coffee table). I accidentally bought a shirt of theirs from the swap meet once and the quality admittedly seemed fine but nothing to write home about.

AA has some neat thing but a good majority of the time i just can't bring myself to pay their prices. I'm guessing that dress (and i could be totally wrong) it's going to be too short and see through. :/

They had a good initial premise of basics that were made in sweatshop free factories. But yeah it derailed big time.

They have good quality tee shirts for small children -- I used to buy them when my daughter was a toddler. It was one of the only places I could find plain tee shirts without graphics, in non-pink colours, for girls. But their ads gross me out (and I'm not easily offended) with their barely-legal girls in demeaning poses, and their stores are as bad as a flea market in terms of an assault to your senses. I would never buy clothes for me there.
