Hiya, the chaos continues in the B. household, but I'm now turning my attention to our trip to Ireland and thought I'd share my travel capsule for fun! You'll see a fairly set colour story lol ... yes I know I know ... but honestly, I've "accidentally" been wearing about 95% black, white, gray and tan for the last few months and couldn't be happier, so there you go ... I guess the 90s minimalism trend has really spoken to my soul

The travel scenario: a few touristy days, a few family days, laying my Mom's ashes to rest, and a huge family reunion (my Mom was one of 11, and I have just short of 50 first cousins, most of whom have families ... not to mention all the 2nd+ cousins that also turn up!)

The weather: Think Canadian spring ... mid-to-high teens C, with light scattered showers and some sun.

The dress code: Aside from a smarter reunion outfit, casual will be good. Comfy shoes and light rain gear will be needed, but nothing extreme ... if it's really rainy we'll retreat to various relatives houses for warm tea and treats!

The pieces (note I will have access to a washer and dryer at our second location, so can always freshen a few pieces if needed. And if proper rain boots are needed, we'll borrow as these are too bulky to pack). I think this is versatile enough to dress up and down as needed, and looks somewhat polished but still be comfy for rambles, train rides, drives, town walking, etc.

- white tank, short sleeve and long sleeve
- black tank, short sleeve and long sleeve
- gray short sleeve and long sleeve
- white linen button up
- beige cotton sweater
- striped thick quarter-zip sweater
- black thin merino sweater
- black "shlouse" lol (structured blouse - see Irina's post!)
- black leggings
- black jeans
- white jeans
- reunion outfit (black and white blouse, cream pants, black heels, black small purse)

- sporty crossbody

- black baseball cap
- tortoise sunnies
- white sneakers
- black belt
- aqua tissue-weight cashmere scarf - the one pop of colour, such as it is!
- I'll wear my silver hoop earring and a silver delicate pendant so I have some finished jewellery pieces

Didn't make the cut
- striped shirt dress - I don't think it will be warm enough for this to be the most sensible piece
- shorts - if it does decide to get hot, I'm sure jeans and a tank will suffice; if not, I'll hit a local shop and buy a pair, or borrow. If the forecast outlook changes in the next couple days, I may stick a pair in
- rain boots - too bulky. My Eccos can stand up to light rain
- bathing suit - my family is sturdy enough to take a quick dip in the North Atlantic in 15 degree weather but I'll pass thank you!

Sounds and looks like a great capsule to my neutral-loving self! Only one pair of shoes though? Or did I miss some?

Yes one pair ... Except for the dressy shoes for the reunion. I thought about a second pair of sneakers but don't think it will be necessary ... These are comfy enough to walk all day but also smart enough to swear with a slightly more polished outfit ... At least I hope they are!!

Love your capsule and want to see that light weight cashmere scarf, I’m very fond of light weight cashmere! And very interested in a rain jacket, have been looking for one.
How long you are going to stay? And what is your travel outfit?

Some other thoughts:
I see black leggings on your list - is it a lounging option or you are planning to wear it out? I only asking because maybe you need one more pair of pants/jeans. With a possibility of rain, your use of white jeans might be limited.

In the transitional kind of weather I usually take a light scarf, too. My preference is for solid linen ones but any can work.

Sounds like a good travel capsule, and it’s nice you’ll have the opportunity to launder if you need to. I’d probably throw in those shorts in case the weather decides to get warmer.

I think your packing list is good. Colour scheme ideal for Ireland we’re not into bright colours. I would bring a hoodie as it can get chilly even in summer. The west coast gets more rain than the east coast but expect rain as it is part of life here.

Irina, we picked up the Uniqlo light rain jackets to bring, as they pack up super small and come with a little bag. Our plan is to make use of layers ... so having a warm sweater plus the light water-resistant layer will be the equivalent of a proper coat. We're there roughly 10 days, 6 of those in the AirBnb (where I'll have access to a washer-dryer as needed), and of itinerary includes a day and a half in Dublin, then a train ride across and down to Kerry (south west) for the rest. That time will include a mix of wandering around the scenic countryside, stopping in to visit various family, our big reunion event, and a smaller event at my Aunt's to scatter my Mom's ashes.

I'll wear my leggings as pants (they are a big thicker) and will also travel in them, along with my striped sweater. Coming home I'll wear whatever's clean! It's not a long flight particularly (6 hours) and coming home will be in the day so sleep is less of a priority, so not fussed to something a bit less loungey coming back. Perhaps I'll bring my black joggers also as they don't take up loads of space.

pirouette, thank you! Yes we'll be in the south-west and anticipate showers although optimistic that it doesn't look crazy-heavy ... it's all good; we love the rain! Striped sweater is hoodie-warm but perhaps another would be good (or perhaps that can be a Dublin souveneir hmmmm)

Janet, good point; perhaps that's what you were thinking too Robin? Perhaps my Nike sneakers ... *sigh* I was almost there with a carry on put perhaps a checked bag will be essential!

This looks cohesive and practical as well as stylish! Sounds like an important trip -- one you will be glad you made. I do think another pair of shoes is a good idea -- for me, that is often the key to happy feet!

Fun trip- how exciting! Love the capsule- agree re second pair of shoes and you could take less tops if you have laundry facilities I think -
I count 13 and whilst some will be layered I think you could get by with 9 or 10. Tees and lingerie are the easiest things to wash.

Keeping the colour capsule tight is a good idea for this type of trip - true mix and match!!

Helena, have a WONDERFUL trip! I've spent a few weeks in Ireland in the past few years, and the two things that surprised me most about the fashion were how much black people wear in Dublin and how little make-up. You will fit right in Hope the weather is gorgeous!

I've spent a lot of time on the west coast of Scotland, and when the sun comes out, it can be glorious. I think Ireland would be similar. Sandals and shorts would be on my list (they are small). I was there in July a few years ago and I took and wore a couple of skorts and a pair of shorts. And yes one day WAS warm enough to swim!

I love the neutral sweaters you show especially. it looks like a nice mix, and that Uniqulo bag looks nice and light for travel, while still being able to stuff a few extras inside it. Have fun.
