Interesting idea - swim T-shirt (UPF50)

Just saw this is in a Landsend catalog - T-shirt that has UPF50 and can be used for swimming or as a coverup. I have a few UPF50 shirts that I use for outdoor activities in the summer - they are great to prevent sunburn from missing a spot when applying sunscreen but they are not very attractive. I like the look of these shirts - might get one or two when they go on sale to use for kayaking etc.

Hi Makrame, I love them. I have been using something similar from Coolibar for a few years. Same with my kids. Land's End made them for kids in short sleeves too ( but I don't recall them ever making them for adults ) . They were so useful, even for bike riding. We canoe, go to the YMCA outside pool, and hike in them too. They were great for hiking because it protected from ticks and bright open areas.

Thanks for pointing this out and it shouldn't be a surprise that I am a YES. And that I am going to buy one !

Also, have you ever seen the biking shrugs ? I have a couple and I love my summer one. I use it to canoe and bike ( not at the same time ). Yes, I look a bit bizarre and my sister in law wanted to know what the heck it was ....but then she was mesmerized by it. Haha. They provide sun protection to the neck, chest, back shoulders and arms. You can wear it over a swim suit or a tank top.

Wow, I have never seen a bike shrug! Sounds quite useful!

I got so used to wearing high UPF long-sleeved shirts for gardening and other outdoor activities, I am now reluctant to put anything short-sleeved on if I know I am going to be out in the sun a lot. But I noticed that my slightly baggy shirts do not look very attractive in the photos so it would be nice to add some more attractive options.

Thanks for this thread, Makrame. I was just contemplating buying a SPF 50 top for this summer, so it's nice to know that they have worked for others. And that bike shrug has really caught my attention. I'm going to try to source one out because I can see where it would be really useful in our hot, sunny summers when I'm on my bike in a tank top. Heck, it would even be good when I'm out weeding the garden--not that I do that very often as indicated by the size of the weeds that grow there.

I have some SPF 30 and 50 button downs but I love the breton stripe look here! the cycling shrug is pretty cool too Great post thanks for sharing

yay! glad to hear they are becoming more main stream and found in regular stores. Those are cute. I have 2 swim shirts that I use a lot in St. Maarten. I have always had to go to a surf shop to find them.
