Interesting find at the Rack

So I was in a Rack with my father, found these special edition
Birkenstock’s. They were tagged at $399. I know special edition ones are pretty expensive, but this was a way beyond
I asked an employee if it was truly the Rack price, he said yes, they were special
I looked them up. Sterling silver buckles

I decided to pass, because honestly they weren’t made any better than other fancy ones by them

Wow. That’s a pricy shoe. I wonder if their core contingent found them worth the high price.

Interesting. My Mephistos were darn expensive. Only bought them cuz they were on sale and then the shop lady cut me a further deal... no one else in my crunchy granola town wanted footbed sandals with bling (rhinestones), lol.

Wow! I don’t wear Birks , but these are pretty fun. I could see these for someone with a carefully curated shoe capsule and wearing them frequently , like a signature style.

$800 for walking sandals-that would last only about a year with regular use? Think I need to shop with Rachy though

We don’t have to wonder how well they sold—things that sell out don’t make it to the Rack. But maybe these were returned because of fit.

Things make it to the Rack for all sorts of reasons — often returned items from Nordstrom that the store no longer wants to carry in stock (out of season perhaps, or some other one-off situation).

Birks are not my jam, but interesting find nonetheless. I wish our Rack got more interesting things — I notice that the ones in DC and Baltimore tend to get a bit more variety.

From a practical standpoint— not just the price point— I don’t think it was so great to have sterling buckles. While sterling might seem like a delicious luxury touch, in these sandals the bright shiny silver is an important element, but of course sterling won’t stay that way, and would be a bear to polish, if even possible. So that’s one detail that would have been best done in whatever is the best quality “silver “ metal finish.
