I've only done this with James Perse, mainly because I discovered the quality was bad for the price. I guess I'm over Marc by Marc Jacobs too, mostly because it doesn't meet my current aesthetic.

Yes, I read that too. It's happened to me with several places. For example, I used to be able to find some decent stuff at Banana Republic, but now I can't find *anything* in there. I think it's their straightforward business wear vibe plus their eternally washed out color palette.

Oh I have SO done this! Not yet with James Perse, I'll admit, but I remember the end of my love affairs with other brands - mostly big stores like Benetton, Banana Republic, and the Gap. I remember the sense of betrayal and loss I felt then too. Sounds like I'm not alone!

I'll never forget my Betsey Johnson prom dress and a few others that followed. That episode is never to be repeated. I don't connect with any of her stuff these days.

I've never consistently had enough disposable cash to develop the kind of purchasing loyalty the article describes. That said, I have often fallen for one or two items from a brand, then followed them, only to find nothing else of theirs works for me. I'm always having to deconstruct my image of a brand and try to focus instead on the actual clothes. Can't rely on a particular brand; but also can't dismiss a brand either, the worst place could have something good.

I've moved on from a lot of brands/stores, but I guess I never felt emotional about it. I think it's normal as time goes by that you need different things, or want to change what you are "saying" with your clothes. I am also not absolute about moving on. I still check old brands/stores but less often and mostly without success.

I am with Fruitful on this one. I have historically bought what I like that I can afford at the time. That means both Kmart and True Religion. I have no 'loyalties' beyond finding a certain brand might fit me better than another. I actually balk at the idea of wearing a brand head to toe - but that's another matter.
