Dee and Olive Green, it had been a long time since I'd tried on men's jeans. I was inspired by a sales associate, who was rocking men's 568s! I tried those first; I think her advice was to go two sizes up from your women's size. I tried them, in a couple of different sizes, and they were too roomy through the crotch. I tried men's 501s, and they weren't right for me. I love my women's 501s, but they didn't come in a light wash like what I was attracted to in other styles. I tried the 555s because they did have this light blue wash, and they fit in one size up from my women's 501 size. I think these 555s work for me because I am on the straighter side, from waist to hips.
RachelNZ, thanks! I love sweaters but don't have the patience for knitting. Sewing a sweater is an option, when you can find the right sweater knit fabric!
Brooklyn, appreciate your attention to the details. Pilcro has a winner with these, IMO. They make me think that shortening barrel jeans into jorts could be an option--one I wouldn't have thought of. (Not that I have any barrel jeans I'm tired of yet!)
Aquamarine, these jorts seem like a cross between a short and a culotte, so to me they feel like a skirt option.
Star, I'm so glad to inspire you!
