I suggested to Sal that as part of her challenge she should do Shiv from Succession. But it turns out Sally hasn’t seen Succession. So I decided I’d have to do Shiv myself.

For those who haven’t seen the show, Shiv is the only daughter of a media magnate. She is smart, fiercely ambitious and unconventional. And she is played by Sarah Snook, an Australian. Australians excel in these types of roles

In the first season her style is fairly casual. Autumnal colours and Ralph Lauren-ish knitwear. In the second season, her style becomes more serious and sleek. Katherine Hepburn-esque. Plaid or pinstripe pants suits in neutral colours. Turtleneck tops with high waisted loose pants. And a very sleek bob.

Outfit 1: this is based on her turtleneck top and pants formula. Shiv would wear a daintier necklace but I don’t do dainty. Plus I prefer the top untucked. I will wear this combination when it’s cold enough.

Outfit 2: this is the outfit I ended up wearing for dinner@home. A casual version of Shiv’s head to toe pinstripes. I know it doesn’t look like much but this is the most dressy I’ve been for weeks! I gave the black sneakers a good clean and am now reserving them for at home wear during the lockdown (got the idea from Angie). The theory is I’m more likely to wear proper “outside” clothes (like my pinstripe pants) at home if I also wear “outside” shoes. Usually my household is shoe free - meaning I go bare foot or wear thongs or slippers. Which kind of sets the tone of my outfit at uber casual. I think I need to lift my game or I won’t be inheriting a media empire anytime soon.

Extra pics:

5: As I was dressed up (by recent standards) we ate at the (kitchen) table. We had ravioli with a rustic pumpkin and mushroom pesto sauce.

6-7: My husband built this hearth for our gas fire. Keeping himself busy in lockdown. It came out really well! We put it on for some comfort even though it’s not that cold yet.

Stay well and strong everyone!
