Inspired by leggings thread: What are you too old/wise to wear now?

So I think we all agreed on Modgirl's post - leggings are NOT pants. Other fabled fashion faux pas were mentioned: Oversized grungy plaid shirts, for example. What else are you now much too old or wise to wear?

Here's me:
80's: Colors that don't suit me (dusty pastels, neon) because they are "in"
90's: Shapeless men-styled blazers (although I got a lot of compliments at the time!); short pleated girly skirts
00's: Uggs outside (I never did this! I always knew it was a bad idea! I swear!)

And for eternity: No more heels that hurt, ever again!

I hear ya on the heels that hurt Ironkurtin and totally agree with you!
As for what am I too old/wise to wear now: overalls...not for any reason...not even in the garden or cleaning out the garage.

Buying something soley because it is on sale or a bargain.

Buying something because it is a trendy shape/style but not my colors.

That's all i can think of right now!

Keep in mind: silly youth. I've forgiven myself now.

1. Skintight tube dresses. I shudder now.

2. Lime green angora sweater (neon craze) with my red lipstick. Ouch. Seeing the pictures was paaaainful!

3. All black, all the time - especially all black in the summer. Yes, I received lots of "Who's funeral is it?" during these moments.

I'm with nicoleb on the sale stuff. Too many of my orphans were a great deal. But not so great if they don't get worn!

I think my biggest mistake was too short tops. Not like the kind where you could see my belly button but short enough that they have to be worn with skirts, not pants. I guess it's not just me, the tops were shorter throughout the 90s but looking back, but I think I carried the habit well into the 2000s.

I am too old and too wise now not to have fun with fashion - because when I was young I did not have any fun with it!

Jelly shoes, sunglasses with the lenses punched out, Bert & Ernie character slippers, and tutus as day wear. (Well, in my defense... I *was* three.)
BRIGHT, tight stretch pants - floral patterned, hot pink, or with stirrups - and yes, I wore them with an equally bright tee shirt.
Overalls.
Hair parted straight down the middle.
Highlighting my hair with Sun-In.
Tight logo tee shirts with smiley face or peace sign decals printed on them.
Tanning (and on me, that means turning lobster red and waiting for skin to fade to a slightly darker shade of "paste" than my norm.)
Lime green short shorts with a lace-up fly.
Flannel pajama bottoms as pants.
Muted pastels or bright neon colors that clash horribly with my coloring.
Buying the cheapest specs that fit my face. The glasses pictured below, which I wore throughout high school, were actually the most flattering frames I'd bought up to that point - the others were metal frames that had much larger lenses and were even less harmonious with my features. (Any surprise that I wore contacts nearly all the time?)
I'm certainly with you on the oversized flannel shirts and the uncomfortable shoes. Never again!

Shirts that show my midriff when I reach for something above my head. (I never wore the ones that showed my midriff even when my arms were down). Um, what else....overalls? Those were actually cute at the time, when I was 19, but now I'd look like a crazy lady.

At one time, I thought I was too wise to repeat the leggings with baggy long jumper look, but think that my leggings with long sweaterdress looks aren't too different!

Cropped tops with bare midriff

red and black checked stockings

dresses in dreary colours

tshirt and tracksuit pants as clothes for work wear ( there was a reason for this but it still makes me cringe a little)

Short shorts (shorter than bermuda length), short skirts, leggings with a long t-shirt and scrunchie socks, a side ponytail, anything oversized, anything from the men's department.

True short shorts (2" inseam). Camis as shirts. Jeans hemmed too short.

After 2 kids and 2 decades, shirts that show midriff are a big no-no for me.

I did some wacky stuff in the 80s... but didn't we all? I can remember begging my mom for a pair of pink pastel leg warmers...

Cutesy ruffles, sun-dresses with an A-line skirt... basically anything that makes me look like a little girl. I am very short, and these kinds of details may look good on other women, but they make me look like a child.

Anything that hugs every bit of my backside. Gravity has not been kind to my rearview.

Any shorts where more than my knee cap is exposed (and you'll all thank me for that too

Shoes with heels over 3" (my feet are thanking me for this one!)

Gym shorts for summer wear (yup, that was the norm in the 80s)

Anything Laura Ashley (that was 70s, I think, and the remembrance makes me cringe)

Must stop now for fear of ruining my day with bad style flashbacks. . .

Tube tops (in my defense, I *had* the bust for it-30 yrs ago!) lol....Oh, and stirrup pants - YIKES! Love this thread....

I'll have to echo that tube top thing. I use to ROCK tube tops in the 90's when I was "going out to the club"
See through shirts - also used to rock that in college.
Anything from Bebe (sorry because I know that there are some fans out there) I'm just too old now!

All of the out-dated, ill-fitting, un-fab clothes I removed from my closet and hauled off for donation this morning.

Anything that's itchy. I can't wear wool, even merino or cashmere (sob). For years and years I bought sweaters or dresses because they were gorgeous and would wear a t shirt or something between me and the wool and try to ignore the discomfort. I finally accepted that I just couldn't do it anymore and had to quit wasting money on clothes that looked good but made me miserable or sat unworn in my closet. I quit buying wool, and when I did a closet purge I consigned, gave to friends and donated huge piles of nice but unwearable items. It hurt to see all that money I'd invested flying away, but it also felt very freeing. I also made a tiny bit of money, made some friends very happy, and am helping the homeless stay warm.

And too wise for:
short skirts, even tho' I have decent legs, it just looks tacky in your 40's
Bad haircuts, I have beastly thick hair
Sock colours that matched my blouse (in the 80's I was a teen)
Dying my own hair, 90's
Rubgy pants
Acid washed jeans

And in 5 years, I'll probably list clothes I wear now
