Inspired by a snake-skin clutch

This outfit was inspired by a snake skin clutch I saw in a magazine about 3 years ago. It was gray cream and bright orange. The orange was a stripe running down the middle of a cream and gray background. It stuck in my head and this is the outfit it inspired. The turquoise necklace was an afterthought.

This outfit is one of my favorite cheery go-to outfits when I’ve been very busy. I know my mood will be positive and I know I won’t look like I just rolled out of bed (even if I did).

I am also wearing Gap’s “perfect khaki” – their words not mine. However they are perfect for me and what I need in a khaki. I love the way they fit because they hug what hips I have and then go straight to the floor which creates volume on the bottom to balance my top. The material is super soft. I of course was quite pleased when I found out that they come in long – the inseam on the pair I’m wearing is 34”. I have the regular length in this color too but they look best on me with flats.

Your top is a lovely shade of orange sherbet! I really admire the careful thought you put into your clothes and how well you know how to dress your body. I aspire to this but still have a long way to go to understand the color, proportions and silhouette that work for me.

And no, I still haven't carried through on an outfit inspiration!

Day, you are stunning! I was afraid that the Gap "perfect khaki" would be the soul sucking beige color but the soft grey is wonderful, especially with the other soft shades that you are wearing. And you look so stylish in your hat.
The most unusual thing I've used for outfit inspiration is a photgraph of sea turtles at dawn. It was part of a challenge that Bella started several months ago. I took a photo of a llama at the zoo to inspire an outfit using soft neutrals but haven't done it yet.

DV, the turquoise necklace looks great against the soft orange top. And khaki is not quite khaki, to me it appears to be gray but complements the top.

Well, here's a whimsical inspiration that's occurred to me: my dogs are beautiful neutrals-black, tan, rust. And I have a Burberry plaid-inspired waterproof-backed throw in my van for wet, muddy paws that I noticed complements my dogs' colors really nicely--similar to this one. http://www.wag.com/dog/p/kh-al.....038;ca_kw={keyword} So, I suppose now I need a Burberry scarf so I'll coordinate too...;-)

Joy -- oh you make me laugh! "Soul sucking beige?" I do have a pair in "sand"but I am pretty sure my soul is in tact. Although I don't wear them as much as I wear the other colors.
I love the picture of the turtles. Its so quiet and mystical. Now you have to show me the outfit it inspired I am so intrigued.

Suz -- Thank you so much. When "it" works, what ever it is, I usually buy multiples. You never know these days when they will pull the plug even on a "basic".

Asingh - thank you! I only refer to khaki as a type of pant (my short hand not sure if others do it). I guess it's sort of like in the south where every kind of soda is a "Coke" no matter what flavor it is. (Strawberry Coke, grape Coke, Orange Coke ... :-D)

Initially when I got that turquoise necklace I only wore it with black but that got boring really fast. I like your inspiration. For some odd reason I have been hung up on black and tan with white as a color inspiration. I haven't done anything with it yet. I think today there may be a black and tan outfit in the works but we'll see...

GAP is a salvation to me when it comes to bottoms. I buy tall sizes too. This is a great effortless outfit and the color of that peacoat is divine.

These are gorgeous colors on you! We must be about the same height because I have those 34 inch inseam Gap Khakis, too. 5'9 BTW. Anyway love the booties and you are so beautiful!

Thank you Carole -- oddly enough I am about 4 inches shorter than you are. -- I just have long legs and these work best with a 2-3 inch heel on me. I like a hem that grazes the floor.

Alldogs -- I am headed home to upload the pictures of today's outfit, it is black tan and gray (no white) but I think you'll like it. There's also plaid involved not quite Burberry -- give me about 2.5 hours or so ....

Love your outfit! I especially like that you went for a sort of menswear inspired hat. It's a nice contrast to the girly orange and fuschia. I love the booties too, where are they from? They are fab! I've been looking for grey like that, all I can seem to find is taupe.

RunnerRae -- the booties are from Payless (Fioni). I did not want to invest too much in the trend before I knew whether I would like it or not -- that was 2 yrs or so ago.

I think you are the first to comment on my hat. It actually is a man's hat. I fell in love with it while I was visiting a hat shop in LA. I convinced my husband to buy it. Then decided that I didn't care if it was for men; I wanted one for myself so we each have one.

The pants are from GAP and every time they offer these in gray they run out. The official name they gave it was "stone".
