Inspiration versus reality, puh

I so loved this photo (number 2) that I have hunted high and low for orange slacks to make it happen with my double breasted navy blazer

The only I found were jeans and not the lovely slouchy slacks that would have been perfect (yes I know AT has them nooow, but not when I was in US)

Anyway, as you see in my take, the jeans and jacket just don't give the same elegant vibe. So I am pouting.

I think the weird pose also makes it worse but it does show off my pear shape, don't you think...he he, actually giggling as I feel safe enough to show such a picture

I think this outfit is great as is! Yes, it is more casual in comparison to the inspiration pic because of the denim vs the dress pants. How about switching the top to something more dressy and changing the shoes to pumps? Maybe that will give you the dressy vibe you are after?

Actually, I really like your casual take on the inspiration photo! I guess it just depends on if how close you want the outfits to match.The pants in the second photo look like wider leg trousers, which to me have a very different vibe to skinny jeans. I like AJ's suggestion of changing the striped shirt and shoes, too. The second photo looks like a silk blouse of some kind. To me, the second photo is a bit more dressy over all, like a work wear look, with the statement necklace and gold buttons and pumps.

AJ and Ana - I will try again with a blouse next time and try to find a more statement necklace. I have to wait on pumps until the spring really comes but I see they add some piff to this. Thanks for the input.

I think if you removed the necklace, this outfit would be just right - sleek with the jacket as your single focus, formal "statement piece."

Hi Jayne! I like this a lot and I think you should go with it. I wouldn't worry about reproducing everything perfectly, it's just the inspiration that counts for me. By wearing jeans, you're making it your own.
BTW, I'm wondering if we can start buying our jeans a size too big so get some "poor man's" slouchy trousers going on.

I think AJ's right --- it looks different in that it looks more casual: jeans instead of dress pants; T-shirt instead of drapey blouse; boots instead of pumps. But you still look great, Jayne, and this is a lovely way to wear those coloured jeans in a tailored way!

I say inspiration is just that...and YOU get to decide how strictly to interpret the look! It has to work for you (and also be possible for you, given your budget and shopping situation!)

I really like this take on the photo! But if you want to dress it up more, you know what to do! And you have some of the pieces to make that happen, with your floaty blouses.
